I have a fiat stilo abarth which needs new front pads and discs, westover fiat in Poole - Dorset have quoted me 275 pounds for this. This covers the front 2 discs, front pads and all labour and vat, this does seem a little high to me but I know they will do a good job.

Does anybody know of a good fiat specialist in Bournemoth, Poole or the surrounding area that maybe able to do it cheaper than this?

I have checked the prices on shop4parts and I can buy the discs and pads for about 130 pounds but I still have to fit them which I can't do.

I have it booked in to Fiat tomorrow (Friday) so if anybody knows a good garage please let me know asap.

You'll probably find that most Fiat garages will rip you off like that.

Changing discs and pads on the front is a doddle, but requires a little elbow grease. I've always done my own pads, and I did my own discs for the first time last month, and I was surprised at how easy this is. It's just a bit of a sod to get the bolts out that hold the caliper together.

I'm in Lulworth, and if I absolutely have to take my car in, it usually goes to Old's group in Dorchester.

I'd have a chat with PNL, he's the one who talked me through changing discs. It's not that difficult at all. Of course this is if you can be bothered doing it yourself lol.

Also, have you thought about going for uprated pads and discs?

They've got Examiner (not that you should need it) which is really useful and their labour rates are low.

And they tried to tell me my 1.2 didn't exist in this country

Don't worry Chris, I intend to question Gordon (the owner) about whatever that was about

In fairness, I believe the 1.2 in the UK was an afterthought, as can be seen by the number of them around. They were like rocking horse sh*t when I was looking back in 05. I only found 1 in the whole or Dorset (trade only mind, not private) and that was over at the dealer on Wallsidown road.

Not wanting to turn this into a 1.2 review thread, but you're totally right Argo. Great for around town, and holds it's own on motorways thanks in part to it's 6th gear. And it only costs me 20 quid to do the 200 miles to my parents, and thats with me, the wife, the niece and nephew, plus a weeks worth of crap for the 4 of us in it. result wasn't great uphill, but still held 70 well (I don't speed with kids in the car) and I get the feeling it still had much more left

and it goes like stink when it's just me in it
