Hi I am Currently in the progress of searching for a replacement for my beloved Bravo.

I know for sure that my next car is going to be a Stilo. but the engine choice is a problem.

I am currently debating between the 1.6 or 1.8. Really I want the 1.9 JTD but I cannot find a 3 door Dynamic JTD.

On the 1.8 does the engine have to be removed for a Cam-Belt renewal like on the Bravo?

Also are the 1.6 and 1.8 engines taken from the Bravo or are they completely different power plants?

As Dan said, don't give up so easily.

Someone on the Forum just got beaten to a JTD Dynamic going for a giveaway £2,800 (and with sky port). You just need to be prepared to jump in your car and go (check the car carefully as well mind you) :)

as a 1.8 owner, i'm fairly sure you can get a 1.9 JTD with the same specs as the 1.8 as far as trim styles/interior gadgets/bells and whistles etc.

If i were starting again, i'd go for the 1.9 JTD for its similar performance, yet much improved fuel consumption (i'm getting 20-25 mpg on average)...compared to some (40-50 mpg)

I'm gonna stick up for the 1.8 . . .

Both the 1.6 and 1.8 are out of the Bravo/a range to speak of,the 1.6 moreso as it only had a new throttle body, ecu and direct coils (it's engine code is 188=Bravo/a!). The 1.8 technically is out of the Barchetta (as it has VVT/VIG) but had enough enhancements to declare it a 192 Stilo engine.

It's great, really responsive, fast, smooth - I love it. Yeah it's not as economic as the JTD, but when I considered running costs and initial costs, I worked out that I would hardly see my money return, hence got the 1.8 (I was actually looking for a 1.6 but I got a 1.8 cheaper :D)

i fink rroope preety much hit the nail on the head... and the 1.8 is an old engine block like phil sed, its obviously reliable so why change it! Its also the same as the 1.6 just bored out more.... and as far as consumption goes... ive had mine remapped and i get on average 37/38mpg and on long journeys mid 40's! Which ent half bad me thinks! Im sure suzie jay will be along to clarify with her remapped 1.8 aswell :)

Happy hunting fella!

How much was your remap? Might save me a few bob in the long run from improved consumption!

I drove to devon and back, M4>M5, most of the way and still only got 27...

Well for me to go devon (home) and back to leamington (M40->M42->M5), if I stay around 70-80mph, I'd be averaging the high 30's, if not the early to mid 40's - thats without a remap.

Round town ragging I'm getting around 25-27mpg.

Ah, well this is bad, i was averaging 70/80 as well from High Wycombe to Totnes and back. I don't know what the computer said, but i worked out the MPG the old fashioned way and filled her up afterwards and the value came to around 27.

But yeah, town driving is closer to 22mpg

Well, seeing as I was interested, I reset my fuel data and went to campus today. The journey starts off in Leamington Spa, and takes 10 mins of in-town traffic going up the parade and leaving leam, about 3-4 minutes on the A46 (70mph), a mile or two on campus (half at 20mph) and the rest on 40mph, 50mph and 60mph roads. Details from the CN+ are:

Trip time 00:41
Distance travelled 18.0mi
Average speed 26mph
Average Consumpt. 35.5mpg

Not too bad I think. I wasn't ragging it but seeing as it usually takes 30 mins each way I wasn't hanging around!

EDIT: Just worked that out to have cost £1.96 (with fuel at 84.9p a litre), and since the bus fare is £2.20 return, it's cheaper by car! :D
