Hello...just wanted someones opinion, or knowledge on this. I recently installed some white led sidelights...this is how they look...Is this legal...'cos they look really blue, due to the blue lens covers. What do you guys think?

Hey,

Heh they look really good, but they don't last very long (n) I know they are suppose to be leds but I had mine for about three months and they started flickering and then stopped working, this happened twice so i change back to normal w5w. So for me not worth the hassel as they are very tricky to fit in stilos. My friend also had the same problem with these leds in his clio, the problem is, that they are not very efficient.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING LED BULBS IN STILO

I have it on very good authority that it is highly discouraged practise to fit LED bulbs to the Stilo. The wiring and other associated electrical systems can't deal with the differerent currents being drawn by LED lamps.

It is, of course, down to individual disgression, but personally, I wouldn't risk it.

And they did look a bit too blue to be legal.

Looks stunnin though :slayer:

Thanks for the tips guys...Keep getting bulb error message, plus the leds stay on for about 10 seconds after the cars locked...and turned on, but very dim...its kinda cool, but may get annoying. Anyway, I also fit some Philips DiamondVision H7 bulbs...check it out, im still geting used to the colour!

You will get bulb warning on the dash, because the leds light draws so little power and the car thinks theres no bulbs in it. But the stilo doesn't seem to inform the driver if dipped or hi-beam is out

yep your correct ..in all departments (y)

Yea.... but can you see any better?

Things do seem clearer...but it may just be the placebo effect. Just fitted them, so need a bit more time before I can say if they really are any good. They look amazing, a complete change. Im keeping the beem on 3...to avoid causing glare...from a distance, they lok like HID lights!

They stay on for 10 seconds (it's actually a bit longer) due to CAN line activity. It's such low current, but the LEDs pick it up and remain illuminated. This happened when i tried putting LED side repeaters; they'd fully extinguish when the CAN line was dead.

I'd personally not bother with LED lights. Leave be :)

You can fit some resistors to the leds to stop the computer detecting a fault, it sorts out the current, which could also stop the leds staying on after the car is off. But is it all worth it? So it would cost another £20 to get the things working properly.

There's nothing worse than these idiots in their BMWs with a load in the back and their lights on full beam in all their HID glory!
I'm no lover of BMW's either but to be fair, HID lights have a legal requirement to be auto levelling so this shouldn't happen on legal lights (proper Stilo Xenon headlights work the same).

Must admit I get pretty pi$$ed at some of the after market LED rear lights fitted on many cars these days. They're very irritating to the eyes and look just like some idiot has left the rear fog lights on

Don't even get me started with Mr modded 306 and his 'legal E marked driving lights'. I don't care what they think, they're too bright for normal driving.

Leds can give a great effect...but only on the inside, and only for show use.

Driving a modified car is enough of a come on for the boys in blue, without giving them an excuse such as illegally lit interiors, or indeed illegal headlights. There'll always be one copper who's miffed at having to work the night shift, just don't make yourself his company for the evening (y)
