Just about to replace the front discs on my JTD after only 25,000 (remap -oops!) and have read somewhere about a tool to wind back the pistons. My question is do i really need this tool or can i wind back with a screwdriver like i used to on my old citroen? And if i do need it, can someone tell me where i can buy it from?Cheers

Not sure about the front pistons on a JTD, but on my 1.2 it was only the rears I needed the tool for (and yes, I mean NEED it!). All I needed on the front was a G-Clamp to push the piston back in.

If you've had a remap, have you considered uprating the discs and pads? maybe EBC Turbo groove discs with green stuff pads?

As ChrisMClark says it’s a doddle to retract the fronts on the JTD although in my case I used a proper retractor tool. TBH, I think that's the least of you problems if you're thinking of changing the discs.

Good luck (y)

No their not they are fixed in place by two bolts which double up as wheel locator's ... and the caliper piston on the front brakes can be pushed in by a G clamp ..and always watch the level in the master cylinder as the fluid rises as you retract the piston I use a hypodermic syringe to suck out excess fluid :)

The actual changing pads and disks shouldn't be a problem.

Like others previous, I would question why they are needed after such a low mileage?

Either heavy brake footed, or they are not up to the job and you should maybe consider fitting uprated ones If you're changing them anyway it would be good advice I think.

No problem doing the job, years of expertise in mechanics from buying crap cars.Wouldnt say i was that heavy on the pedal, but the extra power from the remap does make a huge difference in performance..Probably the cheap materials used by Fiat for the discs.Pad wear does seem about right for the mileage. Upgrading was a consideration but i am hoping to swap the car for the new model Bravo in the summer.Got a quote for discs and pads from Sutton Auto Factors £52.00.Not sure who makes them but they advertise Mintex gear on their website, anyone know what the quality of Mintex stuff is like? Thanks for previous replies

Sutton A F !

I live just around the corner..

Mintex are better than Fiat OE (which isn't difficult to be honest) I fitted them all round and they are pretty good.

Need to use copper slip to eliminate squeal

not far from me as well :D small world eh?

EBC pads are quite good any they're on my long shpping list for the Stilo (y)

See me for the pads Dan I can get them very near trade for you ;) I posted styles red stuff this morning and saved him a wedge of cash :slayer:

Copper slip on the backs of the pad eliminate squeal.

It's also very cheap in a small tube.
