Of course there are problems with every car, but reading though some threads, i cant help but notice that stilo's seem to suffer more faults than any other car...

on the other hand, i think they are the best looking car in the range, and i would really really want one...

so my question is;

taking in to account price/breakdowns/and general wear and tear, is it worth buying a stilo?

thanks guys

Owen

As said - reading this forum, as on many others, you'll get a biassed negative view.

The trouble with reliability is that you can't really say how reliable a car has been until the day you sell it (by which time any potential buyer has missed their chance to own one).

My Stilo (owned about 18 mths) is the best car I've ever owned and rates (so far) more reliable than some previous Rovers, VWs & Hondas I've owned.

I have to say, one of the biggest attractions, is owning a car which is so exclusive on the roads and with frequent comments like "great car" always makes you :D

So the answer is NO you shouldn't buy one - the club's closed! :p

I agree with Argo on this subject if you miss the chance of owning a stilo and its a good one then IMO it will be your loss ..and it will also be your lose in not joining the select group of owners on this forum (y) we are a close knit group and not that bunch of $*&!#\=+" that own puntos and cento's now thats what I call a strange bunch

Stilo's have an unjustified reputation. A former MD used to drive BMW's and Porches and took the **** out of my affection for Italian cars. As I said to him one day, with German cars you expect everything to work perfectly day in, day out and when things fail, you get really upset and it ruins your day. As for Italian cars, you expect things to go wrong so everyday they don't is a bonus and on the one day it happens, you're not upset because you were expecting it.

Moral of the story, it's always worth buying a Stilo because your expectations are realistic. Buy german and you will be dissapointed so often, you won'yt enjoy it, especially with VW:D

buy one if its dirt cheap. cause when you go to sell it on, the value will have nosedived ..

It used to be called caracter, now its just legendary fiat build quality.I for one wouldnt have it any other way.

Although I have only had my Stilo for a short while, I don't regret it at all. I've had a lot (and I mean A LOT) of cars in my 10 years or so of driving, and the only ones that have really made me smile have been Italian.

The Stilo is great value for money, as people seem to be scared of taking the risk. I can't see there really is that much more risk than any other make of car (and a hell of a lot less than a Rover ;) ).

If you are buying used, then like any car you take the risk and have to ask "why is this car for sale in the first place" but as long as you do your homework you should be laughing. The only downside I can see in owning one is trying to sell it when its time for me to get a new toy! Oh, and the eye watering depreciation (offset by the bargainous purchase price of course!)

If you think Stilos have problems, which I personally don't, go to Google and type in 'Freelander Head', some of the stories about the K series 1.8 petrol engined Freelander's problems will make you weep and make you appreciate your Stilo, or any Fiat come to that.

same engine in the Rover 75 and they are known for blowing head gaskets.

Out with the Stilo today and it was one of those times when it struck me just how FANTASTIC it is (it's running just perfectly). Dropped into a store car park and parked nose out (you have to on the 5 door if I'm honest). Came out the store and got that immediate WOW effect when you first notice your motor :)
Did the same the other day when parking in a clients car park. The offices are on the 1st floor and looking out the clean lines of the Stilo, with the sun glinting off the sky-roof, just made everything else and particularly the VWs (there's always at least one) look so drab and boring

Noticed a few of those 4WD heaps on wheels today  God, I'd feel so depressed having to drive one of those around and a darn site worse if I'd actually paid anything for it! If you're worried about depreciation then just think of those poor sods :D
