My Stilo 1.6 active aircon 2003 i've had from new.
Over the last year i've had to top up the oil level on serveral occasions i.e. about a pint every time!
Yesterday evening the car took a while to start, when it eventually did start, black smoke came from the exhaust and the error message "Stop engine low oil pressure" was displayed again!

I topped it up with oil again and so far so good!

Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks

Black smoke is generally linked to gas pump problems...Several 1.6's expirience that...

Although i don't think that is the case, cause once the pump is off, black smoke and is always an issue..

Black smoke is usually burning oil. Blue is petrol overmix. Are you sure it is black? Also, does the car smoke when driving.

A good way to establish if you are burning oil is to not wash the car for a few weeks and see if you have any oily deposits on the paintwork around the exhaust.

If this is the case, it sounds like a head gasket problem or piston rings.

Of course the smoke and oil consumption could be unrelated. Check under the car for any obvious oil leaks.

CORRECT (y)

Over rich mixture BLACK and burning oil is blue

I stand corrected and quite rightly so. Sorry, got my blues and blacks the wrong way round.
On diesels however, blue white smoke is often caused by air in the fuel system and can also been seen when the engine is first started.

Deep blue smoke is indeed oil, black is mixture.

In that case it could be something as simple as a clogged air filter!?

Doh!

I'll shut up...........

And white is coolant. ;)

and as it is wideworld known, RED is the the color of the drivers face when either of white, blue, or black smoke is apeared from the exhaust...

We ve got the colors sorted out now for good..:D

Not just yet, orangy colour is far more serious as the only red face would be that of the driver and, if there are any, passengers scrambling to get out of an incredibly warm car
