Hi All.
The wifes' car has a problem, the rear door (not boot) isn't catching properly (it's not engaging the latch).
When the metal latch clicks down, there appears to be a small black piece (disc?) of metal that should rotate a fraction (perhaps 20°?) to allow the latch to catch. (from looking at the good rear door. The NG door doesn't appear to allow this part to rotate.
Copious amounts of WD-40 have sorted it enough for the door to be closed and allow the car to lock, but I need to have a look properly at the weekend.
Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the door latch machanism, so that I can tread carefully?
I plan to remove the interior of the door (upholstery) and then undo the door catch (3 fair-sized screws in a triangle formation) and take out the unit, take it apart if possible and grease the item.
Any recommendations/warnings welcome.
Thanks,
Paul Mc

They're usually fun if the rods fall out before you've had chance to see how they route:)

Recommendations: do away with the rear door catch by getting a Stilo like mine, without rear doors.

:)

Sorry but Deckchair has already made a really helpful post, so I couldn't resist being useless. My guess though would be that the plastic covering, on this rotating latch piece you mention, may have split and is now jamming the movement. If so, you should be able to fish all the pieces out and restore normal operation (the plastic covering is only for anti-squeak-and-rattle properties, easily achieved by greasing).

Note that you might need an impact driver to get the three Phillips screws out. The impact driver is a surprisingly effective tool for such things, and worth the investment.

Hey Paul

I had to replace the lock on our 5dr (drivers front door) as it wasn't locking at all. It's a fiddly job (as all are) but it is possible. Have been trying to find my post but alas I can't, so here's what to do from what I can remember.

1. Remove door trim.
2. Once removed, open the two rubber inspection holes. Lower the window until you can see the white clips through the holes. Unclip the window (it won't fall but hang on to it to be safe), and GENTLY pull the window up and remove it from the door.
3. Remove the bolts to loosen the inner panel. Remove the junction connector at the B pillar (it is easier to push this through the door and take the wiring off with the door framing).
4. Whilst removing the inner framing, push the inner door handle rod through it so that it remains attached to the lock.
5. Remove the inner framing with wiring.
6. Remove the door latch.

If you get stuck, post up here!

Thanks Chaps,

I'll be giving the repair a go on Sunday.

Cheers,
Paul :)
