Hi all, have got the diesel sound on my 2003 stilo and local fiat garage says never heard of one going!!

Now they will check when i next pass but wondered has anyone got the fiat part number for it?

regards

kieran

There isnt a variator on 1.2/1.4/1.6 models so hardly suprising they said they have never heard of one going if your is one of the above :)

mine start every now and then doing this a year ago! It does it more in the cold weather but i found switching to normal unleaded and keeping the oil topped up has cured it! I use to only use super!

And yes its the 1.8/2.4 which have a variator! Plus it was only engines made upto late 2002/early 2003 if i remember right! And yes fiat know about this as the changed the variator they use on engine after that date! Shame mines a 53' but obviously the engine was built a while before, so unluckly sometime in the future ill have to change that begger!

Did they give u a quote, ive got a few quotes would be intresting to compare!

Thanks lads,i was reading all the variator problems on here on presumed i had the same!!!

He mentioned oil level but it was serviced 6 months ago at fiat garage and has only done 6 k since, suppose i better check it so!

Kieran

So your a happy bunny now then (y) what engine is in your car out of interest ?

well not really happy as i checked the oil level and its full or just above.

Any idea what else could cause the "diesel engine sound?"

The stilo is 1.2 2003 with skyroof etc but an active branding not dynamic.

Kieran

No its continous. It doesnt increase with acceleration.Petrol is always got in a very busy petrol station so it shouldnt be that.

I have car 8 months and noise is always there but never getting worse. Now it wouldnt be as loud as my hiace van but it still ticks over loudly.

Pressing clutch makes no difference.

Really puzzled.
