So,

About 4 weeks ago on a hottish day, i noticed when i had the window down i could hear a really loud creaking noise everytime i pushed the clutch peddle down, and then te same noice when the peddle came back up.

So i took it to my fiat dealer, they took one look at it and knew what it was, so they kept the car and ordered and replaced the clutch system.

I picked the car back up on tuedsay and all was fine(y) , even the slight Juddering when reversing had gone.

Imagine my disapointment when driving yesterday the Bas*ard noise has come back agian, 5 creaks down and the 5 creaks back up! i only noticed it as you can feel the creaks comming through the peddle.

So looks like its going back next week, thankfully its under warrenty till Feb, so i will just keep going back until they solve the problem.

Does anyone know of a better Fiat Dealer / Service Centre in Nottingham, other than the one on Haydn Road in Sherwood?

Also has anyone had this problem, and have they had it solved?

Never had a problem with mine although if you use SEARCH I'm sure you'll find quite a few who have.

Didn't have a lot to do with the clutch though from what I remember :chin:

Thats Cool,

I did a Search when i had the problem in the first place, but didnt see anyone who had it re-fitted and it solved the problem completly.

I am not a mechanic at all, but there is something that when you push the clutch down, something small which is on the right hand side of the engine (small and has a rubber protector around it) seems to be making the creaking noise.

When i took it to the dealer, they re-fitted the whole thing, so gear box came out etc.....

it only happens after about 30 mins of town driving....

From what you've said, it sounds like it could be the clutch slave cylinder that's making the creaking noise. It may not actually be a problem at all- just a noise. Maybe it's the slave cylinder pressure seal vibrating as it moves in which case it may cure itself with time. I think I'd pulll back the outer protective gaiter and smear some grease around the central bore of the slave cylinder. A slave cylinder is quite cheap and very easy to replace anyway

To change the clutch and then find it's not the source of the noise is chronic. Jeez you have to pull apart and disturb so much to do that and it was all unnecessary because of bad diagnosis. "Sorry sir, we amputated your arm but found out later it was just a sprain"

This is where an engineer's stethoscope pays off as you can pin point exactly where the noise is the loudest. With one around your neck, you can also look a knowledgable bod or a complete nerd depending on your point of view:cool:

Creaks have also been known to come from the clutch pedal area where some lub in the right place does the trick but it sounds like you've already located the general area

I use JCS in Kegworth, they seem to be pretty good (y)

Does on mine. But I like it, sounds a bit like a rally car clutch. Hehe.

Guys,

Thanks for the responses, i have booked the car in again for saturday, i will speak to the engineer and see what he did before and what he plans to do this time.

One thing that does worry me is when it starts to creak you can really feel it on the peddle, it also feels like it goes a little tighter.

Will update on Saturday!

Evans Halshaw on Southwell Road is a very good fiat dealer/service centre if you can be bothered to make the journey up to Mansfield:D
I went to inquire on a few things while up in Mansfield on a saturday morning and they were extremely helpful even when I caught them while they were closing up for the day.

use teflon spray on the moving parts of the clutch pedal including the pushrod that goes into the hydraulic cilinder - I got rid of this annoying noise this way!

I've heard bad things about evans halshaw in masnfield, can't remember exactly what now :chin: only dealings I had with them is when I took my car in for the recall, but they gave me loads of cups of tea while I was waiting so can't complain :D

Right,

sorry for the late reply but the Fiat dept @ sunwin renault are SH*T!

So took the car in again on Monday, they have replaced the Clutch system again but havent touched the Slave Cylinder.

So i pick the car up today, they have road tested the car, they say the car is fine now...... so i go and sit in the car, push my clutch peddle down, its still making the noise..... now im Pis*ed!

so i go back to the fiat section and tell them its still doing it, so the head engineer comes out and has a listen..... nothing..... stopped doing it!

So i drive off with the intention of going back in half an hour when it starts to make the noise again, low and behold half an hour later its doing it good and proper!

So back we go, head engineer comes and has a listen and puts his hand on certain parts to see if he can locate the noise, he says its the SLAVE CYLINDER! i told them that the first time i went in after reading these forums!

So, i asked what the have been doing, apparently Fiat when fixing items under warranty replace things with referb parts, so the first time i took it in they repalced the clutch system, the second time they replaced the clutch system as they couldnt be sure that fiat hadnt sent them a duff clutch system!

So, to top it off when i went in on saturday some bird in a clio reversed into the side of my car, she excepted she was to blame, but now i have to get that done via my insurance and then take the car to get the slave cylinder put in!

When will it ever end!!!!!!

Its always usefull if you can do some repairs your self and then you know its been done and done properly but of course if your car is still under warranty than thats alother ball game you just got to put up with the sh*t they chuck at you :bang:

So we were right first time in diagnosing the slave cylinder as the culprit. Not bad seeing we've never seen or heard the problem:)

A £5 engineer's stethoscope would have identified the source of the noise in no time

Had the same problem on my 1.6

They replaced the clutch master cylander TWICE and it still persisited. Broke with my FIAT warranty and took it to a specialist FIAT garage (not a franchise) for it's recent service. Hey presto.....Not a click from the clutch for two months. Said they heard the click and fixed. No extra charge so must have been minor (i.e not the clutch master cylander)

Arnold Clark are a nuisance. If they fix something (which is rare) they will break something else (like my ashtray for instance).

Indie mechanics all the way. Hoorah!

Jon

Guys,

Monday i took the car back to Sunwin as they were going to replace the slave cylindar.

So got an Alfa courtesy car, went to pick mine up, to be told that 'we changed the slave cylinder last time, so we have asked fiat for help'

That made me Pi88ed!

So gave them a few days to call me back when they hear back from Fiat, so they didnt call, phoned them they said that fiat told them to investigate the Crankshaft!?!?

then they told me they were stopping doing warrenty repairs, imagine my dissapointment, i went mad!!!!!!

made a complaint to the manger, he is going to speak to Fiat and see what can be done considering this has been going on since the begining of November!

they have one last chance before i really let rip and let fiat know what is going on!

Bast8rds!

Mine was exactly the same and they fitted a new clutch, noise still there. Took it back sprayed the slave cylinder with white grease and a couple of other parts around, noise hasn't returned for almost a year now :)

I have a 1.8 Dynamic 04 reg and had the same problem with the clutch and they said it was the clutch cyliner. I had to go back 3 times and have 3 different ones put in in the space of about 6 weeks and all of this happened before the car was 3 months old, and I had bought it from new. This was just the start of my problems with the car. Its had a new ecu, drop link on the front suspension, oil leak, front suspension springs snapped at the begninning of january, break light faults, new break pads and break disks and a new secondary fuse box (whatever that is). All of this has happened and the car isn't 3 years old yet and its only done 17k miles.

I wrote to fiat to complain and their reply was basically thats what warranty's are for! I've never owned a fiat before and don't think I will again. Can't wait to finish paying it off so I can get rid of it.

Sorry for the rant!!!

Well,

Finally they have sorted it, they took the slave cylinder apart, and grease it to buggery!

and it works fine.

But they have broke a pipe......... but will aks on a new thread.
