One or two people seem to be anxious about what the Series 2 is like.
I am currently piloting a Series 2 1.6 Dynamic MultiWagon in Met Black with 17" alloys, SkyWindow and Leather. (It belongs to Fiat UK)

Really, nothing is that much different. The two-tone black and beige interior looks fine (esp. with two-tone black and beige leather!), but other than that, nothing much has changed.

The separately opening tailgate window is no more, and the lights on the rear of the five door don't really look any different, well not to anyone who didn't know the difference.

I'm happy to say that it wasn't broken so Fiat haven't fixed it (exc. replacing the 1.2 with a 1.4. 1.2 was a bit puny....sorry)

Fancy a go in a 2.4 GT though....

They are nice, I had a go in one around 3 weeks ago, it gains the Abarth badging and not as suspected a GT badge... pitty it was raining, but it seemed to handle better, the suspension seems a bit stiffer which is how I prefer it. A few things are missing like the Active Matrix ( I emailed Fiat CS, their answer: Please see your dealer for info.... My translation: THEY DON'T KNOW! ) they still havn't put an alarm as standard in the Abarth, poor exclusion on a car of that type IMO, other than those the only additions I did notice where Dual Climate Control has been added, the seats are now more grippy around the sides plus one of those beaker ashtray thingys like in Citroen's C2/3.

If the demo one is still at my dealers when I take mine in for a reoccuring squeeky suspension and a startup noise from the engine... I will have another look as its sunny today.

I want one but they are being pissy over prices, I have printed some prices off from JamJar... so lets see if they want some of my cash!! [)]

1.2 is only puny becuase folk percieve 1.2 as a small engine these days! It kicks out plenty enough power, and its cheap to run!

2003 3 Door Stilo 1.2 Active, Sassy Grey, 5 disc CD Changer, Abarth boot badge, plastic wheel trims - and 42.4mpg average so far. Love it, Oh yes!

Freelancer is that a screechy type noise you get on startup?
if it is let me know how you get on with that?
My local dealer have just said "the problem is being registered with fiat uk" so im still living with that noise on startup

I woudnt say screechy more like a cross between screechy and a diesel starting up for about less than a few seconds, one started its OK... also very intermittant, thats why the service dept cannot locate the fault, even tho one of the Techs has heard it.

I have an uncle that was a chief engineer on racing motorbikes and now does the NVQ traning assesments for car dealer service depts.. he heard the noise and said as the Stilo has hydrolic tappits its an oil pressure thing as from startup all the oil can be down in the sump and needs to get back upto the top of the engine thats when you hear that noise..... it's so damm intermittant that I cannot put a weather factor on it.. it just seems to be in my case when its been idle for a while.

and the saga goes on..............

maybe an oil change could sort it out if it is the oil?

yep if the fault is just being registered... FIAT want a few more before they look into it seriously, one question: how old is your Stilo? mines a 02

edit: before I forget.. my dealer is going to match JamJar and Direct.coms Finance % on a Abarth Manual + my options... around £3000 saving :)

the 1.2 is quite powerful for its size but the stilo is rather heavy and is better suited to the 1.4

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX, what do you want? cupholders? open door warning light? grow up!

From what youve described that is definetly whats happening with mines. The car is rarely idle though, it could do it even after say 30 mins of being parked up while at the shops or the morning after being parked up.

Thats an interesting idea about the tappets being a potential problem. still 5000 miles away from the service inverval here but I'd hate to think the car needs an oil change after about 4 or 5000 miles (as I think thats when it started).

The stilo is an 02 plate

Thats similar to mine its nothing you can put your finger on a recreate for the techs..... I get the same it could be parked for 30mins upwards.. overnight, in and out of a garage, warm or cold weather..... mystery or what!

My car is due a service soon ... well next week the light will illuminate for service time... so who knows if this will carry on or not, one thing I will make sure of is that they use exactly what Fiat recomend for oil or do you guys/girls have a better suggestion to oil type?

Yep the Series 2 or MY04 are only slightly different in cosmetics and toys, the only major additions are the 1.4 Active up from the frugal 1.2 and the 2.4 Abarth manual geared.
