Finally the weather was warm enough (about +2c), so I replaced the other front speaker. Next one will be tomorrow...

I didn't want to remove the door panel so I took the more destructive way [}:)] Here are some pictures of it. Heavily compressed to save download time.

Trying different tools... Dremel attempt visible on right. After breaking two cutting bits I knew it wouldn't work.. Tried wire cutters on lower left.

Ah there's the right tool! After that I started using a hammer and a strong knife.

Still won't come out...

There! A nice clean BIG hole!

Unfortunately the original speaker is integrated on the fitting piece, so it must be ripped to pieces (I like doing that!)

Ahhh.. that felt good! And the Sony fits like a glove.

Whole thing is back in. Only downside is that there's a lot of space around the speaker now. I think I'll seal it with the sound dampening mat which is commonly used to silence computer cases. The grille must be glued back on of course since I broke off all attachment pins.

Gotta look into the rear speaker issue some day ;)

You are a brave man!!!!!!!
I wouldnt have liked to attempt (or even think about) doing that one on such a new car - Fairplay though!!!!!!!

I fancy upgrading the speakers in mine and moving the back ones to the boot as my little girl complains that the music is too loud and in her ear when shes sat in the back of mine, so i have to drive round with the fader set to front or the volume on low.

Think I will take the panels off i was to do this though - why didn't you remove the door panels????

I think the panels are quite difficult to remove, and putting them back in place properly won't be easy either IMHO.
This way seemed a lot easier.

OMG! [V] Bodge-tastic! [xx(]

Fair play to you though, looked like you were making a real dogs dinner of it, but the final piccy doesn't look at all bad! Only the speaker grill to worry about now then! :I

Get another piccy on line when you've finished one side!

Final pictures will take a while because it's a bit too cold for normal silicones to dry. Maybe later this month :)

I admit it looked bad at the beginning but I wasn't worried because I knew the grille would hide my feeble attempt if I failed it ;)

That's a little drastic, I think it would have probably been easier to remove the trims, it would be easy to revert to standard then too

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

I have to admit I was a little shocked by the pictures! But, fair play to you - you got the job done. :)

I hope you've you got enough space left to glue the grilles back. [:0]

Yeah they glued back on nicely. Can't tell if they're been touched at all :)

Sound improvement? Oh yeah! MUCH clearer sound now, and I've only replaced the front speakers so far.

With the original ("full range", what a joke) speakers you have to use the equalizer to get rid of the mid-range honk honk-sound. It's almost gone now. Much more bass in the front too now.
