Hi,

didnt realise till someone told me just now that my rear brake lights and brake light strip are not working. Im not sure what it could be, but would anyone know where I can locate the fuse to check if its this and what fuse it is. Its a Fiat Stilo 1.6 16v dynamic 3d one im looking for or a fuse diagram, as I do not have this, and I have not got a manual with the car.
Thanks

brake switch (fitted to brake pedal) visually check it (operation of plunger) check you have 12v+ coming out when you operate it...could quickly bridge it out with a piece of wire to see if lights come on.

No luck, seemed to be working till Fiat looked at it today morning, did a good job in getting rid of the airbag failure, in any case, I need my brake lights working ASAP.

Errrr no luck with what?
Do they only operate when you push the brake pedal or not at all?
If it's brake lights AND hi level brake lights not working then it's more likely fuse or brake light switch. Have a look in the sticky re how to change the switch and how to set the operating point

NB it's easy for someone to accidently reset the brake switch operating point if they put their foot under the brake pedal and pull it up, this changes where the brake lights actually come on. As you've had work done then it's food for thought:)

Not working at all, no matter how many times I pump the brake up and down, the brake lights and brake strip dont flash up.
Fiat cured the airbag failure and said it was a faulty O/S/R Curtain airbag connection. Is it possible that they knocked out the rear brake lights by solving the airbag problem.
Too dark to take a look now, but need to get the car fixed as I get very little time off work to solve the problem, and Im not sure how Fiat will be for an immediate fix, as I need the vehicle for commuting purposes.
Where can I find that guide deckchair, I looked in the guides section under Stilo, but its not present.

It's in a sticky above your post

To set the switch operating point, push down on the brake pedal and pull out the switch plunger with a pair of long nosed pliers then just let the brake pedal up normally and the switch will ratchet itself to the correct position. Don't pull up on the brake pedal

If the pedal had been lifted then the brake lights would be on all the time. Its more likely to be a fuse or connector off the switch, from memory its fuse f37.

Take the switch out and check for power at the switch connector.

Check for zero resistance across the switch contacts with plunger out and max resistance as soon as you put plunger in.

When you replace the switch set the switch plunger up as described above

I30 is the switch, 4 contacts in the switch, contacts 2 and 4 do the biz

It's also very likely that whoever worked on your airbag light may have disconnected something at the rear and not replaced it.
Confuscious says "If the brake lights work when you took it to the garage, don't work when you drive out, then have a few words". Illegal to drive with no brake lights of course

If the fault was at the rear of the car then its difficult to see how the brake light circuit would be affected. Diagnostic connector for the airbag is in the 16 pin connector in the body computer, which has a link to the brake lights, possible connection problem maybe? Might be worth disconnecting multiplugs on body computer and fusebox, in case they have a poor connection.

Hi NumanR
The high level brake lights are fed directly from the brake light switch whereas the low level ones are fed indirectly from the body computer. To have the lot not working in one swoop points back to the brake switch for me.

It'll be interesting to see just what caused all the brake lights out for poor Badkilla

Thought Id update, the rear brake lights on my Stilo are very peculiar. Today, whole of today, parts of yesterday, working fine, very bright no problem, I could see the reflection in the back vehicle and it was fine, but when I reverse into my driveway and brake sharply, nothing, zilch. However, when I move off and go out, it works, unsure if its all the time. Phoned Fiat, and they reckon it may be the switch, but they do not have any in stock, would have to order and want me to leave my car with them for the whole day, cant afford to do long days as work would kill me for taking off numerous days. But if its working fine, and then at times it dont, what could be the cause for this?

Thanks deckchair, saturday seems a good day to do it, il read through the sticky, but will probably have a few queries along the way which I may try and pick your brain for, I had a look last weekend, but the area around the pedals just seemed too small and congested an area to work in.

Pull this stupid sound deadening thing off from over the top of the pedals and throw it away.

That'll be half the job done already and you'll be able to hear your indicators afterwards as well. Two mods in one:)
