Its my first post, and my first ever day as a Stilo Owner!!

What should i look out for in the car, its second hand, 2000 miles on it, got it clean and from the dealer, drove home in the rain and i noticed some water and dirt on the door sill when i got back, is this normal??

There are clusters of wires stuck to a fairly flimsy piece of plastic under the seat and on the drivers side, they had not been properly stowed away, i clipped them in the way they are on the passenger side, but i will probably have to cable tie them to ensure they stay that way.

Overall im impressed with the level of equipment etc and even though its a 1.2 active its a major step up from my 2001 bog standard punto :)

I havent as yet noticed anything to make me wonder have i been sold a lemon (some of the driver reviews ive read are quite scary), and (in ireland at least) we pay a ton of cash for our cars, ive handed over €14,800 for this car, its 8 months old with only 2K on the clock, brand new they are almost €18,000!!

Water will always find a way onto the step sill, so long as it doen't get past the rubber seal and into the car its not a problem.

Most car's i've been in which had leccy window etc and have the wiring under the front seats are not hidden properly. Probably a cost saving measure, and a sure fired guarantee that it will become damaged at some point by a back seat passengers feet and therefor generate revenue for the local dealer.

14,800 euro's so that what? Roughly £7,400, which isn't as expensive as you imagine, its about the same as here in the UK! I'd paid £7788 for my 1.2 Stilo with metallic paint, pre-registered with 30 miles on the clock!

2003 3 Door Stilo 1.2 Active, Sassy Grey, 5 disc CD Changer, plastic wheel trims - and 41.7mpg average so far. Love it, Oh yes!

just looks a bit shoddy, takes the gloss off the cars initial appeal, still ill find a way to hide it! im stuck at work, and im road tripping to Galway from Dublin tonight, so i cant wait to get home, im just itching fill her up and head into the west :D

Theres not as much visibility when reversing it etc as in the Punto, but BOY does it look better, i got the red stilo, and theres none of them anywhere around me, unlike the puntos which are everywhere... all the same, i miss my lil punto... first ever car and all that... *sniffle* :(

Every car I've had has managed to collect dirt on the sill, but like Stiloboy says, not a problem unless it gets past the seal. You just need to remember to open the doors and clean the sills when your washing the car.

Haven't noticed my underseat wiring is especially untidy, but a few minutes with a bit of insulating tape should do the trick, just remember to leave enough scope for when the seat moves;)

Lovely Sprint Blue Stilo - And no money to mod it!

Let me start by saying welcome to the forums! :D

You haven't bought a turkey and I along with 95% of other members will tell you what a very good car you have.

Of course there are always going to be duffers but they usually stem from problems at the factory and you get your dealer to sort it. Then if you bought an early model 51, 02, or 52 I believe that these models were the ones with the biggest teething problems, after that from 03 all the cars from the factory had had all the niggly things sorted and the earlier models had recalls issued to sort out any ongoing problems.

That wire loom thingy that is hanging from your seat is the seat weight sensor connected to the airbags which distributes the right airbag pressure and realease during an accident, make sure it's hooked and cabled safely out of the way.

£7500 for a car with 2k on the clock and the rest of the warranty, sounds reasonable to me!

Chill out my man, enjoy the forums and remember to join Club Stilo when you get a moment!;)

Thanks lads,

I do like the look of the car, much nicer than a golf or focus, plus the kit you get as standard is pretty impressive.

Ill tie away the sensor with cable ties, or insulating tape.

Just need mats now!!

Hopefully ill get away with little/no problems.

Thanks for the replys, good to know im not alone!!:I

MaxJam welcome mate ... i got the same colour as you do.have a nice time with your car.
But wait a minute, isnt 18K euros too much for a 1.2?gee the cars are very expensive over there.

hey lads,

everything seems ok so far, im back from my 350 mile round trip. the car arrived back with me and it missing no bits!

compared to a 1.2 punto... it drives like a dream, nice to be able to talk to the passenger over the road noise, rather than by morse code, or hand signals in the punto!! heh heh heh

very smooth over bumps, powerful for a 1.2 but that be the 16valve i suppose.

ok, how does the glove box work? is it supposed to be chilled or something? i still havent gotten my owners manual yet, ive to collect it next week.

Only gripes are...
1. Ba*tard salesman in the car place said that they would replace the cowling over the steering column, as it had a small scrape in it,(plastic bit u look over thrugh the steering wheel to see the dials) well they didnt!! they put some resin sh*te in it and its like putty, long story short it came out and looks a bit dodgy.

2. they said the car was clean and waxed, clean my arse, i found cigarette ash in the ashtray, and they mustve only waxed the bloody windows because i couldnt get them clear with the wipers!!

im not too pushed about pursuing these issues tho, im sure i can look after them.

whats the story with the black screw in petrol tank cover, in the punto its lockable with the key, in the stilo its not? in the stilo can you only can open the outter petrol tank flap when the car is
unlocked?

finally whats the best steering lock for the stilo, my punto one doesnt work on the wheel, it wont fit.

Black screw? Dunno what you mean. Petrol filler flap doesn't lock but the filler cap does.
You may want to lubricate the filler flap hinge as it's prone to snap.

I mean when you go to fill your car, u press the little door and it pops open, then you unscrew the cap and stick the pump in.

the cap u unscrew in the punto has a keyhole in it, just like the door lock and you must insert your key to unscrew it.

the stilos cap is unscrewed by hand. so how is this secure?? can u still open the outer door to the petrol point when the car is locked?

if so, can u still unscrew the petrol cap when the car is locked??

whats the best wheel lock to get for the stilo?

When you lock the car, the petrol cover locks too, so it cannot be opened, well unless you get a screwdriver or knife and break it off!
