I must have been cursed, walked under a ladder or broken a mirror as my current run of bad luck continues with my Stilo.

I decided I needed a new set of wiper blades, so off I went to Halfords to get a decent set of Bosch blades. I failed at the first hurdle as their "universal" mounting clips are far from being universal. So off they went back to the store for a refund.

Next stop. Your local friendly Fiat dealership parts department.

I get a set and head home to fit them. I take the wiper blade off the passenger side when the wiper arm slips through my fingers, and then from a great height, thwacks my windscreen with a sickening thud. Queue big crack at the base of my windscreen. [xx(];)[xx(]

And what's more, the crack appears to be on the inside. I don't think Autoglass will be able to sort this one out.

<sigh> I need a holiday....

Unlucky mate:(

You won't be able to afford that holiday if your car keeps costing you:(

Lovely Sprint Blue Stilo - And no money to mod it!

Err.....is it the car..............or does it have operator trouble?

FIAT Stilo Sport. Pretty Much Bog Standard Really. Rear Roof Spoiler,
Sill Protectors, Aluminium Foot Pedals, Eibach 30mm Drop Springs.

I don't believe it! I done the exact same thing on Saturday on my Seat Leon (even got the blades from Hellfrauds too) - it's weird as the crack appears to be inside the last (neither the exterior or the interior but somehow between the sheets if you know what I mean).

RAC autoglass said if they can fix it they will but if not it's a £60 insurance excess to pay for a new screen (it doesn't affect your no claims discount though) and to be honest there's no way they'll be able to fix it. It's going in on saturday for a new screen [:(!]

Did you own up to what you did, or did you claim it was a stone chip? I just wonder whether they don't cover you for being a total wally.

I often wonder about replacement windscreens and whether they'll leak like buggery or something else will start rattling. However, I live in hope that the wonders of modern technology will ensure that this is not the case.

It may not affect your no claims, but I bet the premium will go up next year!

They didn't ask what happened and I never told them to be honest if they did I would just say It was a stone chip from the motorway.

The replacement screen should be OK as long as you give the glue enough time to dry. The issue on my Leon (specific to this car) is making sure the pollen filter is refitted properly or it leaks!

I've had replacement screens on other cars before with no problems.

In terms of your premium going up I'm sure it won't be affected. It's viewed as a policy benefit and all companies offer it. If it were to go up for this reason I would move companies and no company asks about windscreen claims - only NCD affecting claims (having sold car insurance in a previous life). Don't worry about that side of things and go in and get it sorted.

I'll tell you something on the wiper blades if you so much want to blame fiat.Ive bought new blades (both of them, left-drivers and right-passengers) and went straight home to install them.i put the right one easily but troubles with the right one.Aparently FIAT supplied both of the blades with same size (right only for the right one) and if you put them both ... your visibility will be awfull.

Went back and asked the man in the store to check the codes ... they were ordered and delivered as left blades but they were right ... DUMB mistake but NERVES me a LOT.

simple, i bought two wipers and fiat have scrambled the codes, so the wiper blades were exact same although the code and the cover said opposite.

Nah mate, your just an unluky gimp! :p Maybe if you'd taken off the zippy gimp mask first you'd have seen the accident before it happened! All that latex might have been suffocating you and causing you to go light headed! :p

Only kidding bud.... we've all made silly mistakes like that before! [8)] I should know, i'm married! B) Again only kidding, seeing as the wife might see the post! [8D]

2003 3 Door Stilo 1.2 Active, Sassy Grey, 5 disc CD Changer, plastic wheel trims - and 41.7mpg average so far. Love it, Oh yes!

all the wipers that were over there for sale were same ... the guy that works said that it was terrible mistake and mailed fiat immidiately ... and seemed they apologised for the mistake and sent some new blades immidiately.

Ah, that would explain things. And there's me thinking that wearing that evening dress and high heels was the cause of the problems. No wonder the neighbours are now avoiding me.
