Re: stilo consumption

Decks, what's that red line you've got at 30mph? It's not that difficult to remember the speed limit is it? :p

Hope you haven't been a naughty boy recently :D

Re: stilo consumption

What, you mean you haven't got one?
It was part of a Stilo update, giving heads up display. Contact your dealer and ask for the speedometer red line update first thing Monday morning:)

hi there i have a stilo 1.6 16v 5 door 52 plate its doing about 30mpg to 31mpg dose that sound about right thats doing 60 70 mph
I'll confirm Decks figures ... I get much the same in a 1.6 Stilo MW. First thing I'd look at in your case is the air filter.

Re: stilo consumption

Yep, can also confirm Deck's figures in my 1.6. Still very impressed with it too. I was only doing just over 40mpg at 70(ish) mph with my Vectra 2.0Di and its MASSIVE 83bhp!!!

Re: stilo consumption

My 1.6s consupmtion has improved quite a bit since my flywheel/clutch replacement. In town now (which is mostly where i drive) I'm clocking about 30-32 mpg as opposed to 26mpg. On the motorway (once she's rolling) it clocks about 70-80mpg on the flat.

Re: stilo consumption

yeah i missed it on 99, tried for it but as you can see its changed down to 4th and that always seems to make the consumption drop

Re: stilo consumption

1.8 3dr, Driving normal (fairly heavy ) local and urban 31mpg
Tried driving like a granny for a week ,just to see the difference,32mpg.so it' a no brainer.
Ps Trying to talk her indoors to go on the Blackpool meet, (first one)(y)

Re: stilo consumption

i have checked filter and its seem to be ok, fiat plugged and played and found to be ok might try swaping plugs for a better brand:bang:

Don't overlook obvious things like binding brakes and tyre pressures.

An easy way to check brakes is, after coming to a gentle stop, to feel how hot the discs are. They might be warm (because you've just stopped) but they shouldn't be hot and most importantly one shouldn't be hotter than the others.

Also might be worth resetting the ecu so it re-learns your driving style.

Re: stilo consumption

thanks for all of your advive. i will check the brakes. is it worth sending back to fiat, coz its still under warranty. they have not told me what it should be doing any how i should get more than i do know that:mad:

Re: stilo consumption

It's pretty pointless complaining to dealers about petrol consumption as the stock answer is always "you need to change your driving style!".

The best test, as Deckchair suggests, is to reset counter 'B' when you're exactly at 70mph on the motorway and check average consumption. Hold your foot steady and see what you get after a mile or so (obviously on the flat). If it's way under 40mpg then have a word with your dealer.

Yes I noticed all those extra red lines - you appear to have 'upper and lower' rev limits as well :) all in the interests of maximum economy I'm sure.

Here's mine: at night (white dials in the day) https://www.fiatforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18388&d=1158322858

I find the speedo incredibly difficult because the markings (30, 60, 90, 120km/h) are all wrong for our speed limits (50, 70, 80, 100...)! Of course, it looks easy when you see the picture, but having '30' between the markings seems harder than the 20mph increments that you guys get. Maybe I'm a bit thick, but it really is difficult at a glance to see what speed I'm doing... I try to scan the gauges rather than staring at them! Mind you, with only four gauges to read... (rather than the seven of my Uno Turbo).

So perhaps if I copy your idea and put some red lines at 50, 70, 80, and 100... that will make it easy :)

Compare with my favourite-ever instruments in my good old 1987 Lancia Thema I used to cruise around in two years ago... (attached pic) - they just had a certain kind of chronometer-accuracy you don't get in the Stilo! AND - the rev counter was on the correct side! All the gauges were calibrated. Things really haven't been as good ever since, have they?

When I first saw your red lines, I thought that the needles must have been moving very quickly during the photo's exposure - but ruled that out since that meant you accelerated from 30mph to 65mph in about 1/50th of a second :D

I find that my fuel consumption looks better if I shift up to 5th (Selespeed) rather than letting 'Auto' mode hang on to 4th. I've managed an average of 10.6L/100km over the whole tank of fuel. (Being in km, that's what it reads fuel consumption in...) which is about 27mpg. Half town and half country driving. I think that's a good average for an Abarth? I must drive like an angel as well (y)

I'm impressed by your Stilo Hybrid - solar synergy-drive... If I'm stuck in traffic and the sun comes out, my solar sensor cranks the air conditioning up to full blast and I get infinite L/100km... !

Re: stilo consumption

You can almost always get better economy using manual as an auto doesn't know what's coming up next and I think you're doing well, by the sounds of it, with high 20s mpg in an Abarth

Like you, I don't think the speedometer figures stand out individually enough and i don't want to be spending too much time looking down so some markers at the important points are easier for me. Haven't been caught in a speed camera yet and have no intentions of starting

Solar drive isn't much good with the weather at the moment, I need something that runs on leaves:)

No, I've missed out on speed cameras as well :) Been stopped by policemen twice, once last year and once this year, both for exceeding speed limit by 15km/h. $80 fine (about 28 pounds).

If you exceed the speed limit by more than 40km/h here, they take your car away, you pay a $500 fine, and you lose your license for a month... so I haven't exactly been exceeding the speed limit by 80km/h lately, like I used to in the Thema. Ironic, because one hopes that the Abarth might be faster...

Re: stilo consumption

Already posted on an alternate fuel consumption thread... :) but here goes

1.6 averaged 38-43 mpg, JTD averages 52-54 mpg. 1.6's mpg always took a drastic dive if the tracking went out.

Decks, thought you were kidding about the headup display kit, could have had it done with the front spring recall... reminds me of a nervous two weeks with a 3dr 1.2 8v Mk 2.5 Punto courtesy car (20 & 40 marked but not 30  ) it did about 53 mpg, otherwise very impressed with it (y)

Re: stilo consumption

was getting 40.6 mpg going 70/80 in my 1.6
