Technical High oil level warning.....?

As mentioned diesel cars oil becomes black within literally seconds of putting it in,its not cause dealer hasn't changed oil.

Could be pressure sensor fault, wiring, cluster or battery voltage problems causing your display to show high oil level.Often(as on multiplas)simply disconnecting battery for few minutes can cure this.

Thanks for the advice,

If the battery was disconnected is there anything else that resets that i should know about-trip A+B readings etc. Will I need the code for the stereo etc etc.

Cheers

Argonought,

I had a quick zip into Halfords earlier looking for Castrol Edge and found they only sell 4 litre bottles of the stuff!
The GTD Magnatec came in 4.5 litre bottles (Which is what I'll probably opt for)
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Stilo oil capacity is something like 4.7 litres, and with the filter a little bit more-is Castrol available in 5 litre bottles or do you buy in bulk or have to buy a litre bottle as well???
Price wise I thought Castrol good value at £36 for GTD, and £42 for Edge.

The Halfords own came in a 5 litre bottle and was pretty much half the price. Now why cant Castrol supply larger capacity bottles???

I'm seriously considering using Selina turbo diesel as I'm sure they come in 5 litre bottles and are obviously the recommended choice of Fiat.

Kid in a sweet shop!!!!

Mine sometimes throws up the high oil level warning... when facing up hill. Mostly have one to two spots missing off the display when i'm facing down hill, depending on the severity of the hill... if in doubt I park it on a level surface, leave it a few hours and then dip it with the stick... normally up to the level on the dipstick (y)

Nationwide supplied Edge 0W-30 for me (you only have to pay an extra £25 on the service charge) so not sure of quantity required. They also said I could have a free top up during the year, if needed (and I haven't), which I also thought was good.

I agree that Selina turbo diesel would be a good choice (y)

Halfords own brand oil is Comma; it's not bad but always go down the Castrol route if you can afford it, or Selenia; our Stilo 1.6 seems to burn any oil thats not Selenia, but when it runs on Selenia it doesn't drink a drop!

That's a very interesting insight there Rich.

I think many people with high oil consumption take the view that using expensive oil is rather a waste and therefore avoid the more expansive brands.

There are quite a few posts from peeps complaining about oil consumption but I wonder how many relate this to the actual brand of oil they're using

I may be just lucky, with my engine, but is does seem rather odd that I've got very low oil consumption (close to zero) and yet I'm using one of the thinnest oils available.

Hi everyone,
I've had problems with the oil level sensor for a couple of weeks now. Each time I started the car the oil level display was different - it varied from 2 black circles to 6:eek: And I checked the oil level on the dipstick almost every second day - it was ok. A few days ago I had the oil and and the oil filter replaced but guess what happened after that? I got the high oil level warning:bang: :bang: But the dipstick shows a perfect oil level of course... And now my question: does any one know how to get rid of that **** sensor? Is it possible to disconnect it or something like that? I just don't want the oil level to be displayed during start-up (of course I can leave the the door open and the message will read door open;) ) And I have never got the message oil sensor fault:confused: Thanks for Your answers(y)

So, my car had this stupid oil level sensor cleaned today (in a Fiat garage). Unfortunately the patient died during operation, so I'll have to get a new one. Fortunately it's not very expensive... I just wanted You to know that cleaning that device is not a goood idea, but who knows, maybe someone will have more luck.
