my stilo 1.9 jtd ('03) is always catching the speed humps, when i asked about this at my garage the mechanic said that fiat recalled stilos to have the front springs replaced because the original ones were causing problems. is this an ongoing thing?can i just take the car in and ask them to replace them? the car is just out of warranty,so would i be expected to pay?
as usual, any help gratefully recieved..

That's a new one on me. Standard answer I always thought was "don't driver over them so fast then!" :D

Plenty of issues with front spring failure though (Fiat have been known to reimburse).

Mine sat too low after getting it back from the insurer, i.e catching speed bumps and also not being able to go on some multi story car parks, mentioned this to insurer when they picked it up to fit more bits back to it they left off and when it came back it seemed a fraction higher and now no trouble at all

I thought exactly the same thing so I took it to my local garage ( out of warranty anyway) and after putting it up on the ramps showed me the broken spring. I had checked myself when I bought the car for my daughter a few days earlier and never noticed , but on the ramp you could see clearly the bottom section of the spring had snapped and the remainder was starting to twist around towards the tyre. I hope to be picking it up anytime soon , he has fitted 2 new springs , Uprated non fiat ones , £130 for the pair + fitting and probably + VAT , I will let you know how much of an improvement it has made when I get it back

Back from garage , 2 new springs , front end is higher , maybe not by as much as I thought it might be, got the price wrong though , £130 + vat INC fitting total bill £152.75, not that bad really

ok, thanks guys. i'll get a quote from my fiat dealer....or would i be better going to a local garage?
I don't think there's any point in changing the springs unless they're damaged.

Most people on here change springs to make the car LOWER.

I suppose, it they really are OK then perhaps, a previous owner might have already changed them

Either way, you should get them examined properly.
