General handbrake adjustment

Well we try to give a fuller answer here rather than a straight yes or no. Understanding why the question is being asked and a fuller understanding of the answer means less mistakes are made on both sides

If you have a stretched or broken cable or a self adjuster seized on one side then you would need to use axle stands to get access to repair and then adjust handbrake

Thanks Deckchair. Was just a service scheduled handbrake adjustment I was doing. Presently 6 clicks needs reducing to 4 I believe.

Getting back on track a bit.......

Changing Brake Fluid

Local company did it for £25+VAT which I thought was pretty good considering it took them over an hour (took them a while to find adaptors to fit the Stilo)

Had an interesting word with the technician who used the slow pressurized system to do it. Apparently the fluid coming out was just as clear as that going in (aside from a theoretically higher water content) and was a lot cleaner than some cars he'd worked on of similar age.

Can agree with this. Changed the fluid the other day (using Eazibleed at 20psi) and it came out very clear. Bleed nipples very easy to undo, unlike my Peugeot 205's, which broke off. The fluid seemed to come out very slowly though, making me wonder if there was a blockage or something. Quite a few air bubbles expelled though.

In that case it'll feel much nicer down on 4 clicks, bit awkward when it's too high

I expect the flow was slow as it has to go through the ABS valves. Surprised you have air in the system though

Yes, I was surprised. It's 6 years old, but only 31k miles, and I doubt the fluid's ever been changed, or the system opened at any time. It's probably on the original rear pads, and I only changed the front's last year without opening the bleed valve (wish I had now, as I may have caused a problem with the way I pushed the pistons back).

Actually, no air came out of the first corner (OSR), but definitely some bubbles from the others. Hope it's not a fault on the Master Cylinder.

Think mine had air in it first time I bled it too I recall now

That makes me feel better :p

I should say btw, it's my sister's car, not mine. Seems quite well made in a lot of ways (those bonnet struts are lovely) . Not so nice to drive, as the rides a bit sloppy, although it is excellent on the motorway.

I've got a Clio Dynamique, which is much nicer to drive, except for the rather harsh ride, especially over the pot holes we have atm. Also, nothing like the power of the Stilo (the Stilo's a 1.6 btw).
