I was going round a roundabout the other day (fast) and I heard a beep and looked at the dash and it said 'turn off engine' briefly then went away. If I hadn't looked quickly I wouldn't have seen the message.

Any thoughts?

Could be the oil was thrown away from the sensor with all that centrifugal force acting on it!

Ok thanks, I'll check the oil level. I was really motoring at the time.

Talking of fast roundabouts, I was having a bit of fun with some fairy in one of those new clio sports (197bhp) and I went over a roundabout pretty quick and slid sideways for a second and lost traction, does the car not have systems to stop this? It wasn't a scary moment but just wondering how far you can push the car before all the gismos kick in? I thought at first it was diesel on the road but that wouldn't account for the spinning wheels. ASR was on at the time. I just floored it and it straightened up again and off I went. Leaving tinkerbell behind me until the straight and boy did that thing fly past me. Until the next set of twisty bits and I was cursing him again for being a pansy.

Try having power steering failure, then losing all power steering as your just going over the apex of a long corner! now that was scary!

Its a fairly relaxed setup really so u can have a little fun but a over working setup can be more dangerous.

You cant stop loss of traction unless;Drop speed(less throttle),less wheel arch(chamber angles),warmer/better tyres,better weight transfer,Driver habits.

Over the round about???u mean a small painted one?U can get a KA to do those tricks.Wheels will still spin if on diesil jst like it would with ice.

U cant deify laws of weight transfer.Maybe turning the wheel a little too much?.

It was a big roundabout dual carraigeway.
I never noticed any signal on my dash to say the traction control (ASR) cut in, so how much wheel spin do I need to get it to work?

Traction control more solves the problems when one wheel loses control and the other does not. it transfers the power to the wheel that has traction. if both wheels are spining it wont work cos as far as its conserned there both doing light speed and there both traction less.

Just like the ABS. if your on ice and you lock all 4 wheels up at the same time which does happen to many prople who think oh I can go faster on this ice stuff cos ive got traction control and ABS. The ABS thinks you have stopped and does not relese the brakes. unless one wheel hits good ground. and even then the chances are youre going too fast to regain control even with ABS and GOD

I watched this bloke in a brand spanking new car come at about 40 in 1 inch thick ice and compacted snow go head on into some garages. still doing 30 ish.

He Had ABS Tracksion Controls and it was a Fast and Good make of car cant remember now may have a photo somewhere. drove into the steet turned the wheel and relised mmmm the cars not turning like it should so he slammed the brakes and whent past my house like an iceskater on steriods. up the kerb where the Y in the road is past and old lady who couldnt move over the foot path then across the grass and ended up taking out two garages and one car in the garage.

Your talking about 60 Meters the only thing that slowed him down was the kerb and the garage.

Well i know the sport(schumi's etc) are a little relaxed over some other types, this is a little hard to truely work out if its timed loss of traction(most likely) or fluxuations in drivetrain maybe a few experiments would clear this.
Plus if the tyres lose grip naturally it wont show up as much or quicky due to its programming or design.

There's a bit in the handbook that says the ASR is part of the ESP set up except 2.4 20v.

Except why is the Bosch ESP unit in the car-Top right hand side with 3(off memory) copper style pipes to it plus there's a big white sticker at the back on the bulk head that sez the spec with bar codes with ESP on it.Plus it calls the car Schumacher GT-weird eh?

"Low oil pressure" warnings are followed with a "turn off engine" message. Oil was propably in one side of the sump pan. You might want to top up the oil if necessary. When pressure stabilizes, the message clears. Every beep in a Stilo makes my stomach hurt - even the low fuel warning...

Not a drop of oil in the car, had to put 3ltrs in. Garage says that because of the 'high performance' nature of the engine, it will use quite a lot of oil.
Hurray for warning lights (beeps)eh!!!!

I tend to check everything over every other week or when i wash my car-always have done.

I don't use the car very often, the missus has it to get to work, I drive if we go anywhere at the weekend. I get to wash it and fill it up.
