Hello,

I have a 02 plate Abarth and on the whole I am happy with the car. It has its usual problems which I am working down the list fixing (kangaroo next thanks all for that) but a problem I have that I would like to sort out ASAP is the fact that the rear windows do not work from both the controls on the two back doors or from the driver console.

After reading on this forum I found the key issue where you can press the key and the windows go up and down and this fixed my immediate problem but the can someone suggest why they dont work from the doors?

Just to be clear they do work from the keyfob. Does this rule out fuse?

Many thanks

Hey Juggyv

The rear windows are actually controlled from the Drivers Door Node, so as both aren't working it would seem to suggest a problem here. Check that the connector on the A-pillar (circular one with grey pull-out securing lock) is tight and clean.

Do all other drivers door functions, such as both front windows, both electric mirrors, central locking on that door, temperature reading on the display, puddle light and deterrant LED all work??

Might need a new node, or maybe a proxi-realignment from the dealer.

Hi,

Thanks for your response, all other functions from the driver node are fine and a quick test again confirms the windows go both up and down with the fob.

I havent played around with this car in enough detail yet is this connector in the door and I have to take the door panel off?

Thanks,

Hey Juggyv

No, the connector I'm on about is the one that goes into the A-pillar body; open the door, look where the hinges and restrictor bar are, and you'll see it then :).

If I come up with anymore ideas I shall let you know.

Hello,

I just went down and checked the connector. It all appeared to be fine and the rubber housing was all good and tight ( a real pain to get off and I got the wrong end first). I also took out the driver door node and its connected good and solid. You can hear a click when each front door is operated but nothing when you push the back. More so it appears that the child lock facility doesnt light on or off either. Are there switch packs for these things that I could run a meter through or swap the fronts with the backs or is that just being plain silly.

Cheers and thanks for your help,
Juggy

Not a really serious suggestion as my rears are manual:

  1. You haven't overlooked an option in "My Car"
  2. My Sky roof would only open/close using the remote but not manually. This turned out to be the green mould which creates a lot of friction and caused a sort of lookout with the manual switch but not with the remote. You’re likely to pick up more mould on rears than the front.
Just a thought

Are you sure...remember these cars are originally designed as left hand drive.....so is the master controling node in drivers or passenger door? ;)

Does anyone know a good fiat breaker that I can tap up to try and find a new node to test this? The car is booked in 25th Sept with Fiat and I dont want to come out with a sore rear end after they give me the bill.

I am not too sure about the mould suggestion and how I would apply this solution to my car.. PCs and networks no problems, 1 Fiat Stilo well thats me out.

Cheers,
Juggy

Not to overlook the completely obvious; have you tried pressing the child door lock and trying then?

T14086, surely if the command from the switch pack for rear windows is coming from the drivers door switch pack, then the door node on the drivers door would be the master control node? Otherwise it would go drivers door node, along CAN line to passenger door, then be re-split out.

Plus ePER shows that the Lefthand door controls it for GS (LHD), whereas our drivers door (Righthand) controls it for GD (RHD). :)

Hello,

The button for the child lock and the back window buttons appear to be completely non functional. For example if I press the all door lock button I get a response but then the passanger window controls do nothing. Just incase the child lock button (which I beleive comes next following towards the front of the car) was a bit funny I press this also and try the windows but no joy. No light appears on the child lock and it looks like an LED is there to indicate that its on. It appears that that whole circuit is controlled by a relay/swich somewhere that has gone a rollock on me. I will call around some breakers in Brum on Monday but if I pull the control plug off the jack is it possible to short the connection from here to rule out the node? Its all way over my head but I will try it and photo the results if someone can stear me in the right direction. There isnt a seperate fuse that would control just these functions? I was going to check the fuse but because the fob opens and closes all windows I ruled this out.
Cheers and again thanks for your input

Fuses F33 and F34 situated on the body computer run the rear windows (through node M63 in the rear) but the fact the windows operate from the key fob would tend to mean they're ok

Like Rroope and T1 are saying, the front driver's door node (that's M66) seems to be not communicating with the rear node (that's M63). Could be poor contact (driver's door node, door frame connnector) or a duff node or just need proxi alignment (synchronisation done by Fiat Examiner) to make everything talk to one another again

Don't go shorting out stuff, the days of simple relays and switches are gone. I'd check fuses and connectors and if still no go then you're talking nodes which will need alignment by Fiat so best left to them

For a little light reading you can brush up on CAN bus principles here:)

I'd go down the Proxi route myself . . .

OR, my Stilo had a problem with the passenger window from the drivers side controls where it would go down with the up button sometimes, then up with the up button some other times. Turned out to be a duff switch pack on the door!!

Juggyv, know any fellow Stilo owners around you? I'm up near Brum in a few weeks :p

Hello, I will mention the re-allignment next Monday when the car goes in. Sadly, for them, none of my friends own Fiat cars and i would never had touched one if my Brother diddnt have one waiting for me. I think the cars are ace. I have just done a 400 mile drive in a brand new Vectra (hire car). It was manual and crude to say the least. For a car that retails over 12 and for the size of the boat I couldnt beleive how uninpressed I was and how small it felt on the inside. The Stilo is a Tardis! with all the right gadgets.

No I dont have anyone near by who likes Stilos but the Garage will probably have it licked on Monday. I will definatly post the results back if they are honest enough to let me know what they did to fix it.

Cheers ,

Juggy
