Ok so last Thursday car became ill and it turned out one of the coils was knackered (yes it was a Sagem).
i have replaced (very simple) said coil with a champion one (as advised on the forum) and the Engine management light and 'engine fault' has now dissappeared.
Car is running ok but does seem a little sluggish and juddery still, not sure if its me expecting the worst or whether there is still something wrong.

Anyway after a coil failure and change should car return to normal and drive ok without it having to go back to dreaded dealer for Diognostics or reset?

Is there any other effects of having a knackered coil? will anything else likeley to have gone wrong?

Also now i have 1 champion coil and 3 Sagem ones whats the likelyhood of more failing and should I replace all 3 Sagems ASAP? as PNL recommended the coils are available for £35 from shop4parts! so would be reasonable!

Just 3 Questions for now, any advice welcome, Thanks in advance

Hi Guys

Is this the same part that causes the preheat coil failure on my JTD??

Cheers

Darren

You'll normally get fault codes on your dash display showing which cylinder is in trouble or you can disconnect the low voltage connector to the coils in turn with engine on tickover - when you find the one where nothing changes then that's the one!

DON'T pull back the coil off the plug on a running engine though like people used to do on older engines as there's now 20,000 volts at the plug end of the working coils and that's enough to blow your knackers clean out of your underpants:eek:

What are these coils which you speak of? Are they the end caps of the HT leads?

We don't really have HT leads but you're thinking in the right place. There's a separate coil for each cylinder which sits right on top the spark plug so the HT (High tension= high voltage) is only produced just before the plug

Exactly as T says, unclip the wire connector, remove 10mm bolt and pull coil out. That easy, even a blind fool could do it.

Hi there
Just done the diagnostic thing at fiat to find out its my 3rd coil thats not wrking. Decided to order the part from shop4part.co.uk, but just wondering do i need to reset the car(disconnect batt) after fitting the coil to take the engine warnin light off. Also im right in sayin the 3rd engine coil is the 3rd from the left, not the right??

Cheers

Ali
