Ok I know all about the air bag fault, the garage 'modified the wiring' when it came on after I moved the drivers seat (this was after approx 5 visits and numerous things changed).
Its now back after I moved the passenger seat.
The rest came on after I started the engine and it almost stalled.

The car is under warrenty until about the 23rd. of this month so I will phoning Phil @ Gainmanor (Wallsend) today to get it booked in.

It is due the M.O.T obviously at the same time as the warrenty runs out, I can get a free M.O.T at the garage but is there anything in particular I should get them to look at?

I have a squeak from the passenger front wheel when I turn one way with full lock, and a squeak from the suspension somewhere.

John.

Have a look in the Stilo guides up above for fixes to the air bag warnings

As for ABS ASR etc then the only time i've experienced them has been if there's a low battery voltage causing them to trigger. After a run they've disappeared. Have a look in the search as there's loads of stuff on on those

Airbag - Follow Deckchair's advice.
ASR/ABS/ESP - Battery OK? Common cause of Brake Node failures.
Sqeaks - Check Suspension Top Mounts and lubricate all suspension bushes

Cheers lads.

I just wondered if anyone on here had the same problems.
The car is booked into the garage on Tue afternoon so I'll see what they come back with.

Let us know how you get on John - i'm betting battery :D

Well the verdict's in.....

They said at first it was it maybe the E.C.U and would have to go 'online' and find out if it was covered by the third year warrenty.

When I went to pick the car up the bloke asked if I done a lot of short journeys because the battery charge was very low.
He said Fiat wanted me to try a new battery first before changing the E.C.U.

so I'm gonna now try a search on here for batteries.

So it looks like rroope was right.

Who's the daddy?? :p:D

Try to ensure you get a decent battery; O.E. FIAT ones are good, and our dealer beat the likes of Halfords and independent motor factors (battery was Alfa Romeo branded and not FIAT, but was about £45!!).

Stilo's are very sensitive to batteries so it is worth spending a bit more to get something reliable and decent; if you go the Halfords route, get the HCB065 (petrol) or HCB075 (diesel).

They said the battery would be £47 fitted. The mechanic said I'd be better sticking with a Fiat batery.

I was gonna give it a go fitting it myself.

Or I may just take it back to them, get them to fit it, see if it sorts the faults out cos my warrenty runs out on the 24th. ish, so if it is the E.C.U I want to find out before then to get them to pay for it.

Plus I also want to get it M.O.T'd there before the warrenty runs out.
I get a 'free' M.O.T cos I've had the car serviced by them.

That sounds more than fair to me John. Get it done ASAP so you have some time to play with if the battery doesn't cure it, but I'm more than sure it will.

Nice pic there too :D

Ok got battery sorted last Fri after a few problems with them supplying it.

I was away for four nights with my dads car so left him mine.
Faults came back while he was driving, but when the engine was stopped and then turned back on they didn't return.
Which was good because it meant the car passed the M.O.T (except needing new wiper blabes).

The faults came back on this morning so I took it straight to the garage but they couldn't get it booked in until Tue, by which time my warrenty wil have run out!

He said something about the new battery may not have had a good charge.

He said he will put a note on the file to say the fault happened while the car was under warrenty.

So we'll have to wait until Teu for the next step in this saga!

John.

The car actually went in on the Thu when they could get a Fiat Uk engineer out to check it.

He asked about the fault, when it came on etc, said they would check the software to see which version it was, he was very friendly.

They had the keys for less than 10 mins.

Phil came back to me and said the engineer had only to dot the i's and cross the t's, then the part would be ordered and covered by the warrenty because he had put a claim in before the warrenty ran out.

The light hasn't came on for a fortnight but came on this morning, typical as it was booked in for today

The car is currently at the garage and I'm waiting for the call to pick it up.

So hopefully this is the last I'll hear of this fault.

John.

This post started on 07-09-2006......
I've still (over a year later) got the faults coming up on the dash more often than not.

I'm still in contact with Fiat UK trying to get them to pay for a new micro switch under the brake pedal (my local dealerships latest idea as to what is the cause of the fault), that is when Fiat UK return my phone calls.

My three year (36,000 mile) service is now overdue (although the car has only done 22,000mile). I'm going to try to get them to pay for that saying I've been waiting for the fault to be repaired before I get the service done.

Not sure I follow that logic   Isn't that a bit like saying "I've got toothache so I'm not going to bother to clean my teeth until the dentist sorts it" :D

Do you get these warnings only when you start or do they pop up during a journey?

You should be able to check the brake switch by simply checking brake lights (main + high)

John,
just by the part, (less than a tenner) and fit it yourself. I changed mine 2 weeks ago and sorted my intermittant brake light issue. Check out Deck's guide for help if needed.(y)

Argonought:

The lights come on at random while I'm driving.
I've just realised I've lived with the fault for a year now so another couple of weeks won't matter.
As we all know the service is very expensive even though they actually offered me a cut price service.
I'm not sure about their diagnosis of the cause (they been wrong quite often before) so want it fixed before it gets serviced.

I see what you mean about my logic being a bit backwards.

I have no problem with my brakes or brake lights.

Minimad99:

I'm not sure the switch is actually the problem.
In the past I've paid for things they said were the cause of a fault light and yet the fault light continued to come on.

Typical Fiat!

Also I thought the switch was more expensive than that.

That sounds like a real fault to me and I can't believe that brake switch has been dodgy for a whole year - although for the price of it - still worth changing.

Got to be worth getting Examiner connected to read the fault codes and get some clues I'd have thought (does help to have a competent garage too) ;)

Extreme long shot here; but you haven't got on odd mismatch of tyres fitted to your car have you (like wrong size) which have been on for the last year?

Different tyre circumference would flag up a warning straight away as soon as you started moving as the sensors would be putting out different rotation speeds.

As it's intermittent I'd go more for a bad ABS sensor connection as they're easy to get at for each wheel and a quick spray with some contact cleaner may be all that's needed. No signal from one of these, even for a moment would trigger your faults

Here's a rear one

Here's an ABS sensor waveform output (again not a Stilo but very similar)
square waveform.jpg
You can check if the voltage is fluctuating with wheel rotation with an ordinary multimeter

It depends if it's on borderline as there's bound to be an error margin.

Even if it's not very likely, it's difficult to think of something easier to check :)

Yes the %age difference would have to be beyond limits, one might have a nearly worn out tyre compared to a new on the same axle after all, so slightly different rotation speeds

Someone put a different size wheels on the back of their Stilo once on here some time ago and I remember it triggered ABS warnings straight off the bat
