I started the car yesterday when it was low in fuel (not empty or anything but the warning light was on). For a split second I seen the message sensor failure with the spaner symbol on the screen then it disappeared. I couldn't see which sensor it was relating to.

I turned the ignition off and at that point noticed I'd hit the central locking button before starting the car the car the first time so unlocked the car as normal. I re-started and never seen the error message again.

Could the fact that the car was locked and alarm flashing be related to this weird sensor failure warning? Anyone any thoughts?

cheers

Dunno, i did the same thing in my car yesterday, started the car and accidentally pressed the locking button on the key and i never got any errors! :I

Could be your CAT/computer complaining at having to burn all the crap being sucked out of the bottom of the fuel tank?

I'll watch it carefully and if it re-occurs I'll get it into the garage. It's going in for a new glove box switch this week so I'll maybe report it then. Just don't want the can't find a thing wrong that'll be a £50 inspection charge line. But at least if it's going in for something else they may be sympathetic. Then again they're car dealers! :(

Wired cmc ... it can get a "theft has been atempted' message when you have the alarm installed and you lock yourself inside ... but the movement sensor knows you are there ... but i dont think it is what happend to you.Maybe it was some kind of sensor fault for a moment ... i once got "rear brake pad worn' for a 2sec and dissapered after that with no problems at all.

weird, I'll mention it to the dealer when I put it in. I've also had the case when I've left the ignition key in position 1 (powerwing electrics but not starting) for a minute while messing about with the 'my car' setup and it wouldn't start when I turned it. I took the key out and restarted it no problem at all?

I have had this problem a couple of times when firing up if fuel has been low. I presumed it was a fuel sensor warning as when I have filled up after seeing this message I could only fit in about £37 worth of juice in the tank as opposed to the usual £41ish. I am waiting for next service (due soon) to report problem - besides its cheaper to run this way!!

I'll mention that to the dealer when it goes in Sprint. I never thought of it being a fuel sensor good shout.

the last problem is preety normal ... from the first day i got my car ... if i leave the key in the ignition on pos1 or 2 and after a couple of minutes try to start it ... it cant ... i must put the key in 0position and try it after that.preety normal IMO.

the plot thickens. I called the stealer today about getting my glove box switch fitted and told them about the sensor failure and they said don't worry electrics do that sometimes it will just be a quirk. Typical stealer answer when they can't be bothered with a possible intermitent fault, I bet no one eleses does this!

But tonight I started the car and I got the message "low oil pressure -stop". Then after a second it cleared and I got thec "checking" followed by "check - OK" go figure??. I restarted and it was fine. I'm definately going to get them to have a look when it goes in on monday.

Reading earlier posts in this forum, I learned that problems like the ones you describe here, could be due to low electrical supply from the battery. Some people have solved them by fitting a higher voltage battery (e.g. the one from the JTD version).

Well I put the car in today to get the glovebox light fixed. I typed up exactly what the problem was and handed to the garage. Guess what they came back and never mentoned it and when I challenged them they said "oh we ran a diagnosti check and couldn't find anything wrong, but if it does it again let us know".

oh well until next time.

Hi Guys

When I had all my Startup Errors (ABS Failure, ASR Failure, EBD Failure, Car Security Failure e.t.c.) I also once had the "Fuel Level Sensor Failure" error message come up. When I had fitted the JTD's battery into my 1.6 (it transpires that FIAT gave me a battery which is better than the standard fit for the JTD, as I asked for a "heavy duty battery, such as the one fitted to a JTD" and they gave me a JTD Heavy Duty battery), touch-wood QUICK, I haven't had a fault since.

I expect that when I go and start my car in a minute it'll all be back.

Take a look at my earlier post : https://www.fiatforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5118

Sorry to resurrect this old post but I need a bit of advice. I'm getting start-up errors like crazy now (in particular "Fuel Level Sensor Error) and the fuel gauge needle going up and down between empty and full like a man possessed then it clears.

From what rroope says it's a battery problem. The dealer ran the examiner on the car (the diagnostic machine) and it showed no errors - he even gave me the report. But there clearly is a problem. How can I convince them there is a problem and get them to do something about it.

The stupid barstewards are so stuck in there way with "if the examiner doesn't highlight a fault then there's no fault" attitude I don't know how to convince them or what to do.

Was there a technical release on this particular point or have Fiat acknowledged it somewhere? Or is there any other way to test the car that shows up something unusual? I need to get it resolved ASAP as I only have 3 weeks of the manufacturers warranty left and then it reverts to the dealer backed warranty which covers significantly less [V].

cmc i got the "Fuel Level Sensor Error" when i'm preety down on fuel, but only than. The diagnostic machine is preety simple, it finds the erors and than they just delete it and after a period the erors come again.

I've just spoken to the dealer who says bring it in and they'll look at it. I just know it won't do anything when I go down but I'll haed down and see how I get on. Janevj does yours still do this or have you got it sorted by the garage yet?

It still does that ... i dont consider it as a problem ... cause when i'm low i get the message but after thatit says CHECK OK so i dont mind but i will go to the dealer just waiting your feedback
