basically as the title says im getting a clicking noise from the driverside wheel when i turn the steering - generally on a sharp turn. It dosent do it when in a straight line.. I had the brake pads replaced a few weeks ago and though it might be something to do with this but after an inspection its not. Its been suggested that it could be a chipped wheel bearing or maybe something to with the driveshaft?

Basically what i would like to know if anybody else has had this? and what it was, so maybe i could be pointed in the right direction...

The clicking noise to start off with i thought i could have just been the arch lining catching, but its not!

or any mechanic dose this sound typical of a chipped wheel bearing?

Might sound obvious but have you actually checked you haven't got something nasty stuck in the tyre.

I had a similar very light clicking noise from mine a while back which cost me a new tyre. Had I bothered to check I'd have most likely saved the tyre :(

Yes that was my dads first suggestion as to what it could be as he gave the above inspection as his been a mechanic! But a second opinion is always valid! I wish it was a simply as something in the tyre but nothing found in the tyre im affraid!

A cv joint would make a noise on lock if damaged. check to see if cv gaiter is split. this will result in loss of grease around the joint. once the joint has no lubrication it will get wear and hot causing damage.

Like you said though get someone to check.

Correct give the man a cigar (y) most likley is CV joint drive your car on full lock and in a circle if you get a continues click clickclick click clicking then you have a nackered CV joint that answer is simple REPLACE IT (y)

Wow wow wow . . . does it happen when driving or when turning the wheel stationary?

If whilst in motion; suspect CV joint, driveshaft or wheelbearing.
If whilst stationary (as my Stilo did once :D), suspension top mount. I lubed it to buggary and now it's gone :D. Noise was a clicking sound just like you describe Rob, I even changed my inner-wheelarch liner to make sure it wasn't that :)

Is the click one per rev of the wheel or multiple clicks per rev? If it's one per rev then you can dismiss CV joint. Fiat CV joints and wheel bearings are battleship strength in my experience. I haven't had one go yet. Multiple clicking per wheel rev on full lock getting worse with more power is more classic CV joint

Haven't got something simple like loose centre trim on the wheel if you have one?

Lets hope so . . . had a wheelbearing go after 22k on my Brava! Bloody nightmare job that was too, but I soon sold the car after that :D

I had a clicking noise when turning. Turns out it was the Brake Disc Rear guard scraping on the rusty / flaky brake disc. Stick the screwdriver in a bit and prised it out a bit. Fixed it perfectly. Cheaper than buying shiny new brake discs too. hehe.

it does it whilst stantionary when i jack it up and turned the wheel... i will try this as the mounts could with with some greasing up.

and it does it whilst in motion

I will also check this out, as ive only recently had the brake pads changed...

i had a click everytime my front pas side span round, took the wheel off saw nothing in the way of anything then put the wheel back on and it stopped clicking. oooh spookie. was thinking it was something like a bearing before i dropped the car down and drove it off???? Fiat...The mystery continues...

Ok, well the stationary one is almost definitely the top mounts; could be other suspension related noises whilst in motion too, make sure you lube the bushes too.
