Dunno if its just my stilo that does this but when driving on bumpy roads(typical english roads=not off road) it some times grounds and it isnt lowered either. i've had it in the garage as its only 9 month old and they say its in and every thing is the way it should be. so becaus o this i don wanna start with lowering and puttside skirts on t because just get messed up. any avice would be appriciated.(y)

as custard said check your springs and see if your shocks are past it. does it pull to one side when driving?

I once went over a hill a bit too fast and nearly left the road but still didn't ground when I came back to earth :D

Most of the 5 doors will ground (on the plastic under-tray) on severely rutted roads and the occasional speed bump but you shouldn't have any problems otherwise.

I have a 03 MW jtd with Fiat mud flaps on the back these ground as soon as you put any weight in the boot, or have a heavy person in the back seat going down the slightest incline or going around corners. Do they do stiffer rear springs?

Undertray missing on mine  but front mudflaps (genuine Fiat) ground real easy and my suspension is stock! :(

I guess the 5 door is more prone to grounding due to its overall set up being softer

Well I am very glad to say that since my new front springs have been fitted[standard] I have a little more clearance on the hight of the front suspension and have less dificulty with speed bumps and getting of my drive :slayer: [thank god] :D it worked out that the front suspension was aproximatly 25/30mm lower than it is now

So how do you work that one out then Phil

Do you think one of your fronts has been broken for a long time or do you think Fiat have modified the replacements - and if so are they any stiffer?

I dont know whether the front springs had settled in the space of three years but they were distinctly lower than the new set. And no I dont think I had been driving around with broken springs for some time as I am always under there checking things out to give you an instance the last time i was painting the lower suspension arms with hammerite Black allright I know what your gonna say :p but they were dirty OK :D

Hmmm... the other night after shopping, family gathered around a red Stilo and waited for me to zap it, I walked past as it weren't ours :D (53 Plate and looking generally uncared for) did notice though that it seemed to sit considerably higher than ours...

Sounds most likly the undertray.
Just thinking about it when i went 4 a cruise at least a 30% of cars(all makes)had undertray problems and one i saw i thought it was snap off while i was lookin at it and they would have noticed a noise.

Somehow that post rings true with me even though I don't have a family, I can sympathise with the annoyance of people that confuse your car with one that's 'uncared for', some people just don't notice these things... :bang:

way to know for sure is measure the distance between the centre of the wheel and the wheel arch.
then it can be compared with other stilo drivers cars

Hei.

Could someone please take a measure? Someone who knows "I've got the correct set-up". This way others (read "I") could do some checking aswell. Have a feeling my springs have become a bit American.

Thanks.

Morten.

All well and good whipping out a tape to measure it ;) but a have noticed that there is a distinct difference in the height on a lot of the stilos front suspension a working figure would be a good point to work from :chin: and @ Morten what do you mean by springs have become a bit Amarican ? LOW

Yes, low AND soft. Especially on front. No broken springs. The shocks are ok. No bouncing after a push down test. I get the point, as none of our cars are at the same height - so where to work from might be difficult. I'll measure mine later today. From ground to wheel arch (where the outer side of the arch bends inwards), as the measure from the wheel top to wheel arch will require a steady eye and hand.

Morten.
