I have two Stilo's, a 5 Door Stilo Dynamic 1.8 with a Sky Window, Electric Seats, 17" Wheels etc... and a 5 Door Stilo Arbarth with Leather Seats, 17" Wheels etc........

Both Cars are now nearly 12 months old.....

Question:
Why are they worth so little with respect to what they cost me from new?

Is someone trying to prevent Stilo owners from selling and thus slowly increasing the number of Stilo owners gradually?

You thoughts would be appreciated.

conspiricy paranoia[:0] from what i see the cost from new seems to be heavily discounted by the dealers and thus has a knock on effect on the used prices, all cars depreciate heavily when you buy new and like anything its only worth what someone will pay;)

Half a million built already says depreciation can only get heavier!

Supply and damand remember.... supply is out stripping demand and driving the price right down!

The hire companies like Avis, Hertz etc. use Stilos a bit and they dump a numnber onto the market every so often. The heavy initial discount doesn't help residuals either.

I bouth mine used to save a bit of cash and I think I got a great deal. A great car at a brilliant price.

It's simply a case of this car has been a let down to FIAT.

When it was launched it was supposed to save FIATs financial woes, they pitched it against the Focus and Golf, built it like crazy and were expecting high volume sales.

It failed! The public didn't warm to the car, consequently the market was flooded, particularly with the five door variant and prices dropped like a stone.

So, if you're in the market for a used one you'll get a bargain, if you bought a new one you're going to lose a shed load of money, that's life I'm afraid!

Mind you, even the new ones are heavily discounted now and they've started to spec the cars up with spoilers, bigger wheels, body kits, better interiors, etc, to make them more attractive, so anyone who wants to buy a car for the longer term gets a great deal.

I hope this answers your questions and concerns.

I only paid £9600 for mine new, list was like £13200[:0]

I expect its trade value to be about £7.5k after a year, not too bad really!

I do feel for you tho if you payed list:(

I got mine for £7800 and that was with 1 year's tax, list was £10,900 in the same spec as mine.

I think 500,000 sales says its not been a flop for Fiat. It affects all manufacturers, low volume means higher residuals but lower inital profit and good PR, high volume means low residuals but high profit and low PR. :I Pure and simple! B)

500,000 Sales? That isn't in the UK is it? What are the UK sales figures for the Stilo? I'm gonna check. I've still got the only one in our car park of 1200 employees. I've only seen three others in the city, blah, I'm gonna check the facts!

Stilo Flop
"The Stilo effect has not worked," said Schroder Salomon Smith Barney analyst John Lawson, before the results were released.
Volkswagen sales fell 14 percent last month, while its market share declined to 17 percent from 18.3 percent. The new Polo subcompact was introduced late last year to compete against the PSA Peugeot Citroen 206.
The Polo has failed to help the German company overcome the decline in sales of its aging best-seller, the Golf compact. Volkswagen said today that its first-quarter worldwide sales fell 6.8 percent because of the Golf.
The carmaker has been unable to slow the gains of Peugeot Citroen, its closest rival. The French company's market share in Europe rose to 14.6 percent last month from 13.6 percent a year earlier. It has been expanding amid demand for its 307 compact model, Xsara Picasso small van and the 206.
Analysts expect West European car sales in 2002 to fall 2 percent to 4 percent.

U.K. Gains
The vehicle markets in Germany, Europe's biggest, and Italy and France declined last month. The U.K., Europe's No. 2 car market, was the only large country to post a gain in sales.
There were as many as three fewer selling days in some countries last month compared with March 2001 because of the timing of the Easter holiday which "partly explained the decline," though the figures also reflect "uncertainty about the overall economic situation," the association said.
German car sales fell 9.6 percent last month, while Italian sales dropped 18 percent and sales in France declined 5.6 percent. Car sales in the U.K. rose 3.8 percent.
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG's market share rose to 4.5 percent last month from 3.6 percent a year ago, on sales of the new Mini small car that wasn't on sale in March 2001. BMW-brand sales fell 2.5 percent.
Renault SA also gained market share, expanding to 10.4 percent from 9.9 percent a year ago. DaimlerChrysler AG's market share grew to 6.2 percent from 5.6 percent on the strength of Smart car sales.

Toyota Rise
Sales of Toyota Motor Corp., the largest Japanese automaker, rose 12 percent, lifting its market share to 4.5 percent from 3.7 percent. The company said it had its best-ever March and first- quarter sales in Europe.
Ford and General Motors Corp. posted market-share declines of less than 0.5 percent.
Fiat shares rose as much as 19 cents, or 1.4 percent, to 14.46 euros. Volkswagen shares rose as much as 54 cents, or 0.9 percent, to 59.97 euros.
BMW shares rose as much as 80 cents, or 1.8 percent, to 45.30 euros. Peugeot Citroen shares rose as much as 7 cents, or 1.3 percent, to 55.25 euros. Renault shares rose as much as 70 cents, or 1.4 percent, to 52.30 euros.

Fiat is one sick cmpany at the moment. I've been working in Italy recenlty and asked about Fiat and the disappointed look on the Itlian faces and shakes of the head tell it all. The Stilo was supposed to be the rescue package but it hasn't worked. Not because it's a bad car but because they're carrying so much baggage from earlier days when Fiat's were pretty unreliable.

30% of Fiat is owned by GM (of Vauxhall fame). The introduction of a degree of knowhow from these guys can old help the quality of the car and I think Fiat have done a good job and I regularly read reviews saying the best Fiat car ever of that class. Unfortanatelty people just don't see it that way :(

Lester, it has been advertised on TV, but the ads were so forgetable I can't remember what they were! I do remember tho they made a big thing about the skyroof and the keyless entry, which isn't very good as one is an expensive option on all models and the other was never made available[V]

One thing I will say tho, is everyone who has been in my car has been pleasantly surpirsed (as I admit I was the first time I sat in a Stilo), they think Fiat and expect a load of shoddy crap with a dated interior and bit dropping off[xx(]

20% you're right - typo :I. What will be interesting is that in the terms of the agreement between GM from 1 January 2004 to 2009 Fiat has an option forcing GM to buy the rest of Fiat. Will they fo it is the question.

But the point is that people think they are a lot worse than they really are. It's the same all over the car world. People think BMW's are great, but are they as good as people think? probably not.

Everyone remembers the Stilo advert.... its the one where they play a tune with the doors shutting, windows opening/closing, and seat belts being pulled etc by 4 beautiful people! [V]

I still think that us Stilo owners are a pretty exclusive bunch, as I said you don't see many on the roads and it won't be long before we start acknowledging each other with a wave as the bikers do!

This car may gain cult status and will fill a niche market if sales volumes stay low........so consider yourself SPECIAL!

Sure you remember the ads... the music on the ad was made up of sounds made by the car... like the doors locking, winding down the windows and clicking the buttons.... Though I admit I cant remember the slogan!!
