I hope someone can help.

About a year ago I had my radiator replaced under warranty. The original blue Selenia Paraflu 11 coolant was flushed out and replaced with a bright yellow coolant. Recently I have had to top up my coolant in the resevoir. I realise that mixing coolants can be a bad thing, so I just added a bit of distilled water until I could get hold of the dealer. When I asked the dealer what they used, so I could use the same, they said to just get the new Prestone coolant since that mixes with everything. From what I can tell, and looking around the shops, that is only available in America (I may be wrong). Yesterday I talked to the service manager. He couldn't help either and basically said I could put in any coolant. From previous bad experiences with the Dexcool (red) coolant I am very reluctant to do this. I told him I still had some Paraflu 11 from before and he said I could "probably" use that.

I suppose I could always go in for a complete flush and refill, but hate to do that if it's not necessary.

Thank you, in advance, for any help.

I would say i would depend on how much it needs to be topped up by. If it's just a little bit, then just use water. Yes the concentration will change slightly, but don't think it would make any difference to be honest. I've put about 1/2 pint of water in mine since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago, and only put tap water in.

If it's a lot, then seek advise from people who know what they are talking about, clearly the folks you have spoken to at Fiat know very little about the product they sell and supposedly maintain the best ! Why am I not surprised by this. ?

I appreciate your help. There has to be some definitve answer to this and I haven't been able to get it from the dealer, independent garage or part shop. I just don't want my coolant turning to sludge like I had happen to the Dexcool when I lived in America. To avoid costly problems I am now tempted to flush and refill. At least I'll know what's in it then.
