Ok, here's one for you...

'02 1.8 Dynamic 3 door

When going under normal braking, the pedal reaches (what i percieve to be) the end of travel; and everything's fine and dandy. However, under heavy braking, i hit the brakes a little harder and it travels the same amount, but sometimes when reaching the same point, it travels slightly more.

It's almost as if it hit against something, and when heavy braking it knocks past it as i can feel it knocking or grinding against something when it does this. It's kinda hard to describe as i've never felt it before on any car. As you know it gets harder to press the pedal when it reaches the end of the travel, this happens, then suddenly - for a split second - it depresses further quite easily and reaches a second end of travel.

Anyone else got this, or is it the ABS kicking in?! It doesn't lock up and stops fine - it's just a little disconcerting when the pedal moves a little further too easily under heavy braking!

Cheers guys :)

Cheers guys, nice to know something else works :D

on a completely different note...been having a rummage and taking things apart....what's this?! (it's under the rear seats).

Looks like that could be the fuel gage sender/pump :)

I've had this problem for 3 years. Sometimes pedal is hard early on AND the brakes don't work as well as they should. I suspect the ABS put the garage can't find a thing. Tune the radio to an empty spot on MW and see if you get interference when the problem occurs. Shows that the ABS is kicking in and holding the pedal back. When the ABS stops working the pedal drops.
