in an attempt to avoid a car which had spun on a roundabout ahead of me this morning i ended up loosing control on the wet road and having a spin in the stilo which resulted in me hitting the curb and wrecking my right rear tyre. Ive stuck the spare wheel on but ive also noticed that i have a slight vibration through the the steering wheel now so im guessing the the impact of hitting the curb has put my wheels out of alignment....would i be right in assuming this? or could it be something more serious?

Bad luck mate, was it spilt diesel or something causing all the rotations at the roundabout? I wouldn't have thought any damage to the rear would be felt through the steering wheel. As far as you know, did either of your front wheels hit the kerb?

The vibration could just be balancing you would be surprised how much vibration you can get through the steering wheel from a none balanced wheel/tyre even on the rear But on the down side you could have sustained some damage from the impact and as the rear geometry is fixed I would get this checked out for your own safety if you don't you could find your tyre rubbing away because of misalignment of that wheel :)

yea all four wheels hit the curb....it was a small paved area just to the left of the roundabout where i finished up. it was a fair bang and i need a whole new wheel on the back but luckily the spare ive put on is not a crappy space saver. i think the rain we had this morning where i live has brought some diesel up to the surface becuase it was like hitting ice.....natural reaction was to steer away from the skid and hit the brakes which was actauly the wrong thing to do but it could have been alot worse. I think the front wheels may have been knocked out of line as the rear of the car looks fine after closer inspection but im getting it checked out tomorrow.

turns out my car needs some slighty more exstensive work.....i need a new front drivers side wishbone which is damaged. I also need to buy a new rim which has been damaged and no longer runs flush. A local garage discovered the real problem but ive phoned a fiat dealership and they are going to take a look tomorrow they have quoted me slightly more than the local garage but im willing to pay to have fiat trained mechanics working on the car.

Ouch! An expensive excursion then; I guess the wishbone must have struck the kerb as well. Even though you'll have the 'experts' working on it, I'd echo Argonought's advice: get it to a specialist for proper four wheel alignment afterwards. Following suspension work to my Stilo after which the dealer swore blind the alignment was OK, I took it to Micheldever Tyres and had it shown to me in black and white that it patently wasn't.

yea looks like thats exactly whats happened....thanks for the advice i will certainly get all four wheels aligned and hopefully all should be well.
