Technical saving wear on sat nav CD mechanism?

Does anyone know if ejecting the Sat Nav CD when you are not using it will save wear on the CD reader? I ask because even with no CD, the player (or something in that area) makes a whining noise exactly the same as when the the CD is in it. If it's spinning regardless, I guess I may as well leave the maps in there?....:confused:

Ah, it has a cooling fan then? Could be right, it's that sort of noise, don't know how I'd check though...

Thanks for not posting what I would have posted, that the whining might be the Sat Nav lady....hahaha
 
There is a small CPU Cooler inside the unit to keep all the components nice and cool.

It's similar to one found on a northbridge on a pc motherboard.
 
OK so I'll take it that the noise is the cooling fan, and that by putting the CD in only when you need the Sat Nav feature DOES save wear on the CD player... Thanks!
