Rds Tmc

If you don't know what it is. RDS TMC can add traffica ndother information to your sat nav. You have probaly seen it in the menus of CN+.

TMC has been broadcast in the UK since 2002 and 95% of the road network is covered. We can't get it because fiat does not have an agreement with ITIS to decode the TMC info.

Does anyone know why fiat do not have an agreement and does anyone know a work around?

Re: Rds Tmc

Hi - this has come up before in the Ulysse forum, and lack of TMC in this country, which is just sooo stupid.

I will find link and see if anything relevant.

Not seen much forum activity on the Stilo RDS-TMC front recently, but after listening to Classic FM the other day I noticed that the "TMC" logo appeared on the 'Audio' display. As a result I've done a bit of reading up on TMC and it appears that Fiat (and Navtec) does subscribe to the TMC data access and that the signal is currently only available in the UK on 'Classic FM'.

However, although I've got the SatNav+ (Version 8.3) set up to display the road traffic information there's nothing shown on the screen (albeit there's not much traffic 'issues' at the moment since the kids are now off school).

Mind you, this is assuming that since it is displaying the TMC indicator it is processing it and a further version upgrade is not required (even though the manual mentioned it from day one)

Has anyone with the SatNav+ in the Stilo actually seen any TMC data on their display? If so, what version are you using?

Re: Rds-tmc

Hi

We have the same issue on the Ulysse currently - it only works with the latest 2006/7 CDs from NavTeq [in the case of the RT3 unit], with the Trafficmaster data on it.

So I presume the same on the Stilo - all will be clear once we get our hands on the 2006/7 Stilo CD.

PS I would recommend a firmware update to 9.8

Hi guys

Further to the earlier posts, has anyone had any luck with the 06/07 Navteq maps and TMC for the Connect Nav+?

I've just bought a Stilo MW with a "new" replacement Connect Nav+ with V9.9 software, and as I will be driving mainly on A and M roads, the TMC would be an absolute bonus!

I've driven a Vectra several months ago with a similar integrated Nav system, and the TMC worked like a dream..........

Oh well, the thought was there!

I was pleasantly suprised when I switched the Nav+ unit on when I test drove the car (id already spoken to the dealer who had been servicing it, and they kindly told me a new Nav+ was fitted in June / July) and found V9.9 pop up on the screen.

From what I've previously read on the forum, there dosent appear to be much difference between 9.8 and 9.9, it still "forgets" where it was playing on the CD :bang:

A little update regarding TMC on the Connect Nav Plus in Stilo's.

After mentioning the lack of TMC to my local dealer, they gave me the freephone telephone number for Connect (in Italy I think) 08000 964823.

From what I can gather, TMC is linked into the 12 month Connect subscription when the car is first registered, and the TMC subscription expires at the same time.

To re-instate it, the fee is 205 Euro's, or 135 of our great British Pounds!!! They need bank details faxed over with name, telephone number and car phone number to send a code to the Nav +. Once I get the fax number I'll post it, but Im off on hols till later in Feb.

The website is www.bconnect.biz, but dosent have much information.

Please dont flame me if Im wrong coz Im only passing on info I've received!!! :p

That has to be wrong - I get TMC on the Ulysse, and the Connect subscription expired back in 2004. It just gets the info from the local radio stations that transmit it, thus I reckon it will be active ONCE the next firmware comes out [if it comes out].

Then again, I could be wrong too :chin:

Hi Stu, I must admit it does sound rather bizarre......... I think another call to Desira is required in the morning to clarify issues! The last thing I want to do is fork out 135 quid just to be able to find out where the nearest MacDonalds is!!!!

Desira did say that Alfa's have a similar issue, but I dont understand why your Ulysse can still receive TMC after the subscription has expired! How very fiat!! :p

Hey,

TMC and bConnect are totally different they are not Linked in anyway. TMC is only available through radio stations. When the Stilo was launched in 2002 there was and still is free TMC service in Italy and the rest of Europe. The Stilo can’t receive any TMC data on the nav display because there are no free TMC services available in the UK. The only two TMC providers are Traffic Master and ITIS but fiat are not contracted to use the TMC data provided by either of these two providers for the Stilo. Fiat need to pay a one off contract fee and all new nav discs would be provided with the relevant code info on them. Basically until Fiat does this we will be unable to receive TMC in the UK on the navigation. If we go to another European country we would be able to see the TMC icons on the display as they all offer a free TMC service. It’s a Shame we don't have a free TMC service over here in the UK.

On the other hand bConnect can supply you with traffic information but they can't send little icons to the nav display, they can only send written text explaining where traffic is, used it before (quite handy). Not sure if they can send geographical coordinates though? But even if they could the navigation can't be programmed to avoid certain areas, so you would have to avoid the congested area manually.

Here is a web site which tells you more about TMC

.

I have the RDS TMC icon highlighted and can select from options such as traffic or weather and can then select if it is near destination or near car.... must say I havent seen anything come up on the screen.

So who is Visteon then? :chin: :spin: that name seems to come up now and again.

Visteon is a Ford owned company :)eek:) that FIAT got to make the Stilo stereo's (tape, CD, MP3 units) for them. The company is Portugese, and makes FORD OEM stereos too.

As far as I'm aware they don't make anything else for FIAT as most FIAT stereos are Blaupunkt.
