Good Afternoon Everyone.

Hello, my name's Pete and as the title states I've just come into Abarth ownership, and I’m very happy with it too (y). I do think though, given a little light encouragement, the car's got way more to give! So, I was hoping you lovely educated people might help me out with some company names, web links or advice on the following matters.

- Induction (Filter, Throttle Body, Manifold)
- Head (Cams, porting specialists)
- Exhaust (manifold, sports cat and all the way back)
- Remap specialists.

I know that’s pretty much everything but finding tuners/ garages who can deal with these things is proving mighty difficult (n) !

Any help is appreciated, and if we’re ever in the same place, rewarded with a cheeky pint!

Kindest Regards
Pete W

Hey Pete

Welcome to the forum, glad all is going well with your new car! :D

Right, as for company names, the only one I can really recommend is Angel Tuning; they do induction kits, CDA's, remaps and supersprint exhausts. Check their website out.

No doubt more people will be along soon to help (y)

Yep heres one :D you could also use GSR engineering the owner is a forum member look in the members list for Oldschool and PM him (y)

I felt the same, considering it is a 2.4, the Abarth is woefully under powered. I contacted http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/ and they told me what it would take to get more power out of the engine. It is not cheap, so I won't bother wasting my time or money. The only thing I will be doing is getting a new rear silencer that is less silent, the 5 cylinder has a nice sound to it but it is stifled with the original exhaust system. Supersprint seem to be the only exhaust manufacturer to make an exhaust to suit my needs. I like the look of this site.

Good luck, keep us posted of how you get on.

Underpowered?
I did the mathematics and it works out to over 70bhp/litre... now a FIAT Uno FIRE engine is 45bhp/litre and even my Alfa Romeo 164's V6 was 'only' 64bhp/litre.

So I'd have thought that the Stilo Abarth's standard 170bhp was really good for a 2.4 (ignoring some of the wild claims made for early-90s Japanese Domestic Market Toyotas - e.g. the 166bhp 2000cc engine of a Celica that I owned, which felt like it had about 90bhp)

Also, that 170bhp is more than double the power of a Stilo 1.2, so compared with other Stilo models, it shouldn't feel 'underpowered'? :)

Mine's fast enough for me, but I agree with you about the exhaust - it's a bit too quiet!

that Celica goes down in power every time you mention it :p

Hello Everyone,

Thanks very much for the replies, some great stuff there. So, (part of) exhaust, induction, cams and remap seem to be do-able. Does anyone perhaps know of some more-specialist companies willing to do one-off work?

"Also, that 170bhp is more than double the power of a Stilo 1.2, so compared with other Stilo models, it shouldn't feel 'underpowered'?"

- Feels slow compared to my last car though!

Hi Pete.. Peter from GSR (oldschool) collected a catalyst and induction pipe from me on sat so hopefully we shouldnt be waiting too long for the developement of these... (y)

When i mention about these being underpowered nobody seems to agree.. but when you consider...

Renault Clio 182bhp 2.0litre
Honda Civic Type R 197bhp 2.0litre
Renault Megane 225sport....
the list goes on and on...

And then Stilo 2.4... 170bhp.. GRRRR!!!

When compared to other "hot" hatchbacks it seems to have been strangled by someone regarding bhp per litre! I've been talking to people regarding live remaps, cams exhausts etc and we should be looking for 100bhp per litre from an engine that was apparently once destined for rally use!!!!!

Hello GHOSTWKD

Err sort of, I sold the Evo and then bought the Stilo.

"(and the cash to run it pls lol )"
- This is what ruins the joy of owning an Evo! Yes it's devastatingly quick and blurs the line between fun and ridiculous but after that it's pure cost!

Servicing every 4500 miles (£200, unless it's a major one then it's £500)
Fuel: Around town -14mpg, motorway - 24mpg, rag it - 8mpg
Tyres: Lots
Insurance: Stupid

Plus every chav wants to either race it or nick it and every copper wants to just nick you... for anything!

Unfortunately my research into evo 3's found me the same as you've fed back here :( could find the cash for a nice evo3 and just about the insurance, but not the running costs :( so the cinq will stay for longer :D

Look forward to hearing about how your stilo comes along though! :D oh and of course welcome to the forum  (think i neglected a welcome before!)

Welcome Pete!:)

The Evo's nice, but I like the look of that Jag Mk1/2 tucked away in the garage!

Well OK then, you have a good point in comparison with other cars. I was referring to the Abarth compared with other FIATs. FIATs in general then are obviously some of the least powerful cars you can buy. Does any other manufacturer make a car the size of the Stilo with a 1.2L engine?

I wonder why we buy FIATs? Maybe we only buy them out of sympathy, since in just about every respect they're a poor choice...

Incidentally for the price of my Stilo I could have easily bought an Evo3 and had about $5000 (1800 pounds) left over... this is what turned up in a quick search of current auctions, first page of results:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Mitsubishi/auction-64980261.htm (an Evo 4 but cheaper than the 3 anyway)

in fact I could have bought an Evo7 and still had $2000 change:

Cheap performance, but they're such common cars though - and heinously ugly with all those tacked-on bits! Is it worth it for the performance you can't often use anyway?

I've never seen the appeal of the Evo, Impreza, Skyline or most jap cars for that matter. The Japs may no how to make a fast car but have as much style as a mullet (apologies for anyone with a mullet or Japanesse or both). Did they raid the left over parts bin for the body kit, looks like an afterthought. Just my opinion but the Evo looks like a very poor quality 1980s Saloon - probably because it is based on what is a pretty crap car in standard form - please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong which isn't uncommon.....

The 3dr Stilo Abarth is head an shoulders the more attractive car and has reasonable power to boot.

:yeahthat: I like the Evo's but as previously said you need megga bucks to run one but we could always sell our organs [for transplant surgery] to run it :D

SRVBEN - A very keen eye you have there, it's actually a Daimler Mk2 2.4, currently it'll need more restoration then the Titanic to get moving again, but all in good time!

If you have never seen the appeal you have probably never driven one! The Evo/ Impreza ethos has nothing to do with style, it is pure unadulterated speed, very, very usable speed, (mine was running 330bhp and felt docile compared to the 170 going though the Stilo!).

The Evo is form following function, there are something like 16 holes in the front of the "VI" and each has a job, you'll notice the off centre number plate to aid intercooler cooling, the oil radiator is on the right so there is a hole on the right, it has a bi-wing on the back as the FIA changed the reg's regarding wing size and it was the only way to get sufficient down-force. (The Evo V’s wing is was the largest)

All its parts were meticulously designed for maximum efficiency, and therein lies it’s elegance. No, they did not raid any bins for a body kit.

No I haven't driven one, I can see I ever will either, absolutely no appeal whatsoever. Sorry not alot more I can say than that really.

Hey my number plate on the Alfa is offset, somehow I don't think it is there to improve the performance, well not on my 115bhp diesel anyway. lol

I do like the look of the car in the garage, I'd noticed that, looks like the car we used when we got married, that was a Daimler. Lovely looking things, deep shag pile carpet, no headroom in the back but make nice noises.
