Hi guys.

I was just wondering what fuel you are using in your engines, because I am finding it harder and harder to put 97+ ron into my engine. The reason being the price of fuel. Has anybody here swapped from Optimax or Super Unleaded and found a performance decrease? If 95 ron works as well I might just use that instead. Since I have had the car (2006 1.4 Active Sport) I have always put the good stuff into the Engine. With 99 Ron from Tesco's it seems to fly. What do you think, stick with the good stuff, or go for the cheaper fuel?

Cheers

I run 95RON normally, then the 97RON stuff every 3 or 4 tanks.

Going to try the 99RON when I head back to uni; the nearest one to me (Leamington Spa) is Coventry Arena. Hasn't hit Devon yet! (Although we only got electricity last week :p)

Thanks Rich.

Do you find a performance difference between 95 and Super Unleaded? I have never used 95 in the Stilo but I have in the Punto and have found that using the higher Octane fuel makes the Punto more responsive.

Cheers

Dominic

Yes, I found that using the higher RON petrol does increase performance slightly and makes the engine smoother; as one would expect by definition!

Although for runs I usually use 95RON as I don't see anypoint wasting decent fuel on the motorway. If I'm going roundtown, it's 97RON usually; although escalated fuel prices are keeping me on 95 at the moment.

I was told that a lot of tankers from different garage chains fill up from from the same refineries at times.
could be wrong though:)

It may be from the same refinery, but it is down to the additives [or lack of] that can make a difference.

Try some of the Greenergy stuff that Tesco sells - 99RON - highest RON fuel you can buy, plus it is not 'supermarket' rubbish. I use it when I remember to fill up at weekends, else I just stick in Total 95 RON rubbish.

Tesco's by me have now discontinued the 99ron so its sainsburys 97 ATM and to all of you that are using the 95ron in a 1.4 I wouldn't bother but the 95 in my 1.6 is crap (n) the car is very unresponsive I am expecting it one day to refuse to start one day if I put that stuff in can you imagine it In I get put the key in the ignition turn the key after checks and the car beeps and message says YOU GOTTA BE JOKING MATE

You have spent all that money on doing up your car and you put crap in the tank for shame on you Matt [I think I will have to take you in hand here ]:nono:

At first i was using 95ron, but lately when filling up, ive been using super
uleaded from tescos which is 97ron. cant find anywhere local that serves up 99ron. I posted a thread on here once, where the car was slightly juddery from low revs in second. this was happenning with normal 95ron. now i use 97ron, and the juddering has gone. anybody know the website that tells you where to find the cheapest petrol, and what petrol they sell. I'd like to try this 99ron :D

you're quick. I found petrolprices.com, but not the greenergy site.

Anyway, looks like a full tank of 97ron to find this 99ron in wales, nearest is cardiff. Then use all the 99 ron to get home. hopefully we will have it locally :(

Im just continuing the all show and no go theme with my car.:D The amount of fuel i use every week i'd be broke if i put expensive stuff in, plus tesco is just down the bottom of my road

Surely if the octane rating for the fuels are the same, what's the difference?
