I have recently noticed a clear liqid being ejected from the fuel filter on my 1.9 JTD. It could be water but smells a bit of diesel. Having never worked on a diesel engine before I am a bit stumped. The service schedule suggestes that the filter should be emptied of water every 1000 miles or so, can anyone suggest what is needing done?

Cheers

If you had an excessive amount of water in the fuel system i think you should get a warning on your display.

You can bleed the fuel filter by unscrewing the nut on the filter slightly.

I would suggest there is a problem if you can see liquid coming out your filter and you haven't touched it, get it checked, You may just need a new filter

Where on the filter is it being ejected? If it is coming out the top where it meets the pre-heater then the filter needs tightening.

If it is coming out the bottom then the water sensor needs tightening. There should be minimal water in your fuel unless you fill up in the rain a lot.

If its coming out of the side of the filter then I suggest you have that checked immediatly!

Thanks for the reply.
It appears to be coming out of the small 'pipe' on the bottom of the filter, I am going to change the filter and see if it sorts the problem.

Cheers

I've resurected this thread as i have a question.

I today attempted to drain the excess water from the diesel filter as got an error message a few days ago.
i unscrewed the water sensor on the bottom of the filter and heard a bubblung gurgling sorrt of noise, the plug/sensor thing wouldn't come off completely and i did not see or feel any liquid come out.

Does what i've described sound lie i've done it correctly?
Also the plug/sensor underneath seemed loose when i touched it.

cheers
