Can anyone shed some light on how to reset ecu after giving the car a service myself.
PNL and Deckchair5- You guys will probably know. All hail the stilo gods!!

Do you mean how do you extinguish the "Service due" warning?

Can be done by Examiner at Fiat garage and some specialist garages for a fee

The "Service due" countdown warning is designed for Stilo owners who live in caves with no track of time or garage owners who can't decipher a gregorian calendar and a log book

It doesn't beep or flash lights at you so it's not much a nuisance

If you just want to reset the ECU then just disconnect the battery for long enough

If you ever find out, then please tell us all on here.

I actually thought that there was EU legislation that forced manufacturers to provide an additional means of resetting the indicator, without a trip to the main stealer. This could be that they only have to provide the software and hardware needed to do it, costs a lot of course.

Mine has flashed this message up for a few seconds for about 2 years now. I ignore it completely. I can also prove it has been serviced by invoices for parts etc. Anyway, the car is almost worthless as soon as you drive away from the forecourt, so why worry about servicing affecting residual value. (depreciation on Stilo is almost vertical as no-one wants them, I wonder why......... beep beep beep)

Are you on one of your Stilo lows again Stilo_ste :( ?

You only have to read a few posts to see that last comment of yours is entirely false. (n)

I simply can't understand why you don't get your service counter sorted. Even the most expensive dealers wouldn't charge more than £40 and don't forget they can do other checks for you whilst Examiner is connected (updates etc). :)

Luckily I'm not a manic depressive when I read your posts mate because if I were I would more than likely be hanging from a rope in my attic SHEESH:bang:

Lol - what amazes me is that he manages to run a Triumph Stag.

My dad used to have one of those - maybe 2 even - I do remember him selling it back in the late 70s or early 80s, then getting a call from the Police a few days later; it had been used as a getaway car in a heist or something.

(n) Yep they overheated if cooling system wasn't in perfect order, a lot of people put bigger expansion tanks on.......the timing chains snapped and the body work rotted too!!!!
Sounded great when they were running though:D

You have a right to ask.

Maybe I was on a Stilo Low again. However, it does seem to be behaving recently.

The Stag is completely a play thing, which I don't mind tinkering with. it has a Rover V8, so doesn't suffer from the dreaded cooling or timing chain issues that they originally suffered from. To be fair these issues have been overcome and are well documented.

I manage the Stag because I am damn good with my hands and tools. I don't mind getting my hands dirty at all.

No, the Stilo should be far more reliable than it is. So the comparison between it and the Stag is unfair and not valid. My Stag is 33 years old, how many Stilos will be around in 2035 ? ? ?

The comparison between Stilo and my Vectra is probably more fair, as both are modern cars using modern materials, validation, and manufacturing techniques. the Vectra has covered more mileage in a shorter time, and has had no where near the number of problems as the Stilo has. So make your own mind up.

My point about depreciation is completetely TRUE. 3 year residual values are SHOCKINGLY low.

And paying 40 quid to turn a light out is purely ridiculous. I'll live with it.

That's right, depends if youre a buyer or a seller as to who reaps the benefit. Your comparison with a Vectra is fair too but as I have moved our company car fleet from Vauxhall to ford/Audi my opinion of Vauxhall is dalready decided. 130% failure rate per annum meant we had no choice but to move to others and the fords are far more reliable than the Audi's.

Something about the Stilo that keeps the owner fixated with it. Must be the same with the Stag?

I know this, when my car looks like my friends/neighbours/work colleagues then I might as well knock it on the head, If ever I look/dress/drive like them please shoot me??

Good point - but as you rightly said, the Stag is a play thing, not to be used as a daily commute, unlike the Stilo - I would love to see a Stag do 20k+ miles a year, and survive to 2035 :chin:

Some Stags are still used as daily transport. Mine isn't though. Look fantastic IMHO.

hi,
im in the same situation with my 2002 version. if anyone can help please do. it was bad enough getting ripped off once by the garage without having to go back every few months and line their pockets again.

There is an affordable solution for resetting your service indicator :

search for "service reset" - post "Examiner" by Mscortar and read my proposal for buying the formula as a group - you will need a laptop plus a interface with cable and sofware that will cost 100 euro - with this equipment you can monitor all CAN- traffic on B-and C-CAN and you will be able to send many commands just like the Examiner does......
Everybody on this forum complains about the costs for service reset but nobody seems to be interested in some affordable equipment to do it yourself ????
you can at least read the post and decide for yourself - there is already a member who's willing to organize a group buy...

Good luck,

Yellowstilo
