Ok so ive had my Stilo 1.6 dynamic 02, 30k for 3 months.... I Love it... none of this beeping or faults flashing etc... untill this morning! Started engine got half way down my road and Beep Beep Beep Engine failure.

Engine now displays Engine Failure with a spanner and the warning light. Ive started it since but the engine dies strait away.

Ive looked at most of the posts on here and have come to the conclusion it must be the coils or the spark plugs but might be the battery.... What do you reckon?

Ive also noticed on one post someone saying about the battery and the green dot not being in the middle... mine isn't!

It's also been hesitant at the top end of second gear as though the revs just fall off, this doesn't happen often though...

The only difference is it was quite wet outside this morning could that cause the engine to display these errors, as its been bloody hot over the last few days.

Hoping its not too serious

Kristian.

(thought i'd bought a good'n) :bang:

You probably have bought a good un but like all cars the plugs don't last for ever. Equally the coils tend to pack up the same as older normal ignition leads tend to go on the blink beyond 30k. Poor battery shoots everything in the foot on start up and dampness is still affecting modern cars the same as always. Some things never change but it might be time to change a few of your engine's bits! Battery first one to check out

Got any fault codes come up?

Cheers... no fault codes have come up so im taking that as a good sign... battery health is the likely problem i think the indicator on the battery is mostly black with the green circle right over to the right. Ive just booked it in at Fiat in Havant just outside Portsmouth for a check up and i'll let you know what the outcome is.

Fingers crossed its not gonna cost me a fortune as im off to Newquay next month for a holiday!

Surfs Up!

i've sold 3 ignition coils for 1.6 stilo's today!!!
something in the air???

hi,

this just happened to me on Saturday. Took it to my Fiat Dealer and was told its the 'Number 3 injector'. So new part ordered and I get the car back tomorrow. Luckly I took an extended warranty otherwise it was £250.00.

:shakehead no can do they cost me more than that.. i'm afraid main dealer is always gonna be more expensive!!!! :bang:
but mine come in a pretty fiat box!!! ha ha ha :D :D :D :D :D

Nothing to do with pretty box, they are champion coils, the only ones that last.

i do tend to stay with o.e. parts (y)
having run an aftermarket store before running ford, nissan and now fiat parts depts.. i always stick to o.e. although ido have the advantage of cheaper costs... :D

Lol, halfords teach the opposite! Although I was lucky enough (well am still) to get my local dealer to do me (on average) 15% discount, so I always go there anyway. They did a battery far cheaper than anyone else could; came through as an Alfa battery!

Well Fiat called today after the diagnosis and have found the map sensor or something had gone... £240 to replace...

Dont really know if thats good or bad. Its more expensive that i'd hoped for. But had the great insperation that as the Stilo is in for this i may as well get the Aircon checked out. They said its gonna cost £99.00 for a Aircon Service and refill... and then he added thats if theres no pipes to replace... so i'm expecting a call tomorrow about the Aircon.

Fingers crossed it just needs a refill! Its begining to eat into my Newquay holiday money... Time for some overtime at work cuz nothing is takin my holiday away! :slayer:

How do these prices sound to you guys? The Garage is Seawards Fiat in Havent outside Porsmouth so...

Thanks Kristian

I have to say Kristian, I'd want to know exactly what the problem was (within reason) and exactly what's going to be replaced before I'd agree to part with my money.

It's also a good idea to get a breakdown of parts & labour. :)

MAP sensor is £90 retail and 10mins to replace so what is the £240-£90= £150 for? I presume your ECU will get the update if not already done but what accounts for the rest of the bill? I'd be asking a few questions and, like Argonaut, a breakdown of the estimate

Aircon can be checked and refilled for around £60 if you shop around. Repairs are different, get an estimate when they survey what needs to be done

No smoking on garage grounds (thats the law here) but its ok in customers cars as its technically private property while inside the car.....sorry about the fag burns in the seats:D
