Please please help Stilo experts!

We have a 2.4 Abarth Stilo (53 reg), and tried to start it this morning. Car switches on fine and does the "checking" thing, but doesn't want to turn over, it seems to be stuck in 1st gear, and we can't get it to change. Have tried resetting the car by slamming door 10 times, but still nothing??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, selespeed. Have tried changing to manual but stuck in 1st in that as well!!

Hmmm, could be the gearbox acuator or something. Mine went last year, the guy was stuck on a major roundabout during rush-hour

Luckily it was covered under warranty, not a cheap part to fix.

Try disconnecting the battery for an hour - then try again.

I have had simmilar problem.
Mine ABARTH SeleSpeed would get stucked in (some) gear while in AUTO mode.
Than I would switch it to MANUAL mode and everything would work nicely.
It would happend almost every day, but sometimes there were no problems at all!?
I find out that my gearbox is having an issue with switching in REVERSE gear, and shifting it back in first.(but sometimes with a delay of few minutes!?)
Those were my problems I have experiencing.
I went to a nearest FIAT dealers workshop to examine the issues.
They hooked it on a Computer & have had replace a thing called something like "break (pedal) switch"- & guess what - NO PROBLEMS ANY MORE mate.
COST OF SERVICE 10-20€ with work included!

The brake pedal switch is a common problem - BUT if it was stuck on, you would still be able to select 2nd gear or reverse surely.

YES-I was able to manualy shift gears (even 1st and shift it to reverse also!)
Maybe You should try this:
When you turn key in contact pos. (1st klick-the cars computer is CHECKING)
Then You (stiloness) should press BREAK PEDAL ON and while BRAKE is pressed down - try to get it in NEUTRAL.
Otherwise it won't start the engine-no matter in which gear is car in to.
I'm just saying in case you don't know this! NO OFFENCE
