Re: Stilo failed MOT.... shock horror!

My little 1.2's going in for its first MOT since I've had it, today. The back box looks rotten but hopefully the rust hasn't gone all the way through the second layer.

Wish me luck! :D

Re: Stilo failed MOT.... shock horror!

Yay, passed with just an advisory on the back box!! Not bad for a 7 year old exhaust. :D The MOT tester said he could hear the flexi blowing as well but it wasn't enough to affect the emissions, so passed it. (y)

apart from a full service and a new rad to be fitted i just know they will find something else!!

Wimp... no pain no gain! Seriously though if you've only had the car 3 years then you won't have paid its worth yet, so if you trade it in your only going to loose even more money.

Re: Stilo failed MOT.... shock horror!

Why do people fear the MOT so much:confused: If it fails its because its not safe for you or other road users/pedestrians.

What amazes me is the amount of people who dont even bother to check lights, yop up washers etc...basic things then they moan when it fails:confused:

Re: Stilo failed MOT.... shock horror!

Yeah if you fail to prepare your car then prepare for it to fail I say!

Light, fluids, tires can all be checked, as can seatbelts, seat anchorage, exhaust, brake basic inspection (corrosion, leaks).

Basic structure can be checked at home too, its really only emissions and brake balance you can't check easily yourself.

Although I had a fair idea my exhaust could fail, so it came as no real surprise to me.

I had it since new (53 plate) . Got a trade-in figure last year (£1500) so it's not going to lose much now - a few hundred opposed to a few thousand. So we are getting near the point of cost of repairs exceeding value of car.:(

The very fact it's not depreciating very much is all the more reason to hang on to it. Driving a car of low resale value is actually quite a good idea since you can dispense with comprehensive cover and if you've been saving your pennies then you should be in a position to buy another whenever you want.

Most people make the biggest loss when they commit to buying another car.
