Re: could this be an MOT failure?

Have exactly the same thing with mine. Been like that for well over a year now. The front box section is a different story though. Had an aftermarket one fitted which died (baffles), then had it replaced under warranty. It died again (baffles again), so had it replaced under warranty. Now the baffles have gone AGAIN :bang: :bang: :bang:

But the backbox lives on.

Yay for the standard backbox :slayer: :slayer: :slayer:

Re: could this be an MOT failure?

Sort of related to this, my mid pipe went (on the flexible bit up near the manifold) and I had the whole thing replaced (couldn't seperate the back box, so it had to be gas axed to bits then removed). Would you expect the flex hose to go first? If so, wouldn't that be an indication as to how long your back box has got left?

Re: could this be an MOT failure?

As already said it would just be an advisory - even if it was blowing, a decision on whether it was a minor or major leak would come into play. :)

Re: Mot Fail On Airbag Warning?

excellent, not been on here for a few weeks, due to matters outside my control, and the first thing I check is good news! The fix using electrical contact spray has stopped working and my MOT is up in a few weeks. I'm going to sell the Stilo, though I love it, as my insurance has gone up because the guy who hit me back in October is claiming no liability, I can't afford it any more, but having an MOT will def help! :(

Re: Mot Fail On Airbag Warning?

Just had MOT and it passed on everything. Just need some front brake pads and new front tyres in the next few months.

Stilo failed MOT

On offside bulb pointing too high, but he did it for me and passed it :p

BUT got the bonnett up when I got home and the cover was hanging off, he's only gone and f*****g snapped the bit of plastic where the metal bracket goes into :bang: I've managed to put it back in with shead loads of electrical tape and it should hold for a while :)

He told me that my front pads will need doing in a while so bring on the EBC discs and pads :D took him ages to get to the oil filter as well

and he managed to reset the service light which I didn't think he could do, it was an independant garage with their own diagnostic equipment.

Re: Stilo failed MOT

On the subject of the discs and pads ..the discs are fine but I wouldn't any longer recommend the green stuff or red stuff pads and have found a better product ..bummer about the damage tho Dan (n) just shows you just cant trust anyone these days :(

Re: Stilo failed MOT

I was gonna go back but they had closed :( tape seems to be holding it fine for now but will have to keep an eye on it and if it disappers buy a new light unit :bang:

well the red stuff pads have to be quite warm to start working properly and that would do my head in, what other pads work well with the discs?

Re: Stilo failed MOT

How did he manage to break that bit? What a prize plonker...

As for discs and pads, I found the best combination being RED.DOT discs and Greenstuff pads. They managed to lock my wheels up at 120mph on a track day when I still had my Astra. I don't know how they'd perform on a Stilo though.

Re: MOT a brezze

My Stilo failed the other week due to a loose nearside headlight. Spent £20 at a local garage to get it fixed & it passed with no advisories.
I must treat it to a wash as a reward...

Re: MOT a brezze

Let me guess suspension ???

Near side drive seal leaking,
Front pads and discs (which is wear and tear, cant blame the car)
Near side dipped beam,

Then when it went in for the drive seal apparently the front n/s spring had broken. It was serviced 5 days before and was fine, had only been driven twice since then, and was fine on the drive in to the garage. I would of liked to seen the part that was "damaged". I trust the garage, but I do wonder if it may of been broken when the car was in somebody else's hands IFSWIM

MOT Failed then passed :)

MOT failed on handbrake zero reserve travel :(

Paid out for new front and back pads and handbrake adjustment. PASSED :)

44K on same pads not bad I thought?

Advisory on MOT that I have only just seen says ' Slightly deterioated rear exhaust system'???? Garage who did service didn't mention it I presume it is nothing to worry about? How far do these advisory notes go, do they issue them for the slightest thing?

Thanks

PS all done for £344 (48k service, pads, adjustment & MOT) Reasonable??? Charged £90 for rear pads & adjustment as they take an hour to do?

It means that the rear exhaust box gas some corrosion on either the outer skin or by a weld etc and may be an issue before the next MOT. Same for instance with tyres, at time of test one may be 2mm. Its legal but wont last for much longer and makes the owner aware that before the next MOT it will need attention.

MOT failure - emissions?

Hi guys, had the car in for its MOT today, and as the title says, it failed :( The CO emissions were too high on fast idle, up at 0.466 (should be 0.300 max) The tester said it was the cat converter. Im not so sure because there are no other visible problems with it, theres no lack of power or any other issues. I dont really want to have to go and spend £300 on a new cat when its not really needed? Any ideas  Could it be lambda sensors even though the lambda figures were ok??
