Fiat have quoted me 87.00 all in for handbrake cable and 120.00 for pads and if I get repairs done there they will not charge for re-test! so 207.00.

I have until 1st July to sort out but am away on 26th-28th June so dont have much time.
Should I try myself as parts will cost 15.00 for cable and 27.00 for pads but haven't a clue how to do either.
Can any one tell me if the rear pads are easy to do and will I need any special tools. (I have searched the Forum but couldn't find much) and again same with the brake cable.

Thanks for you opinions or advice

Re: please help stilo failed mot

okay 1st thing i would be wary on is the fact they only failed it on parts they fit
secondly brake pads are not an mot fail only the brake performance

have you looked at the back box to see the hole?

Re: DAMN car has failed its MOT!!!advice needed

Right, my turn today!

Failed on:
Front anti-roll bars worn £100something
Rear tyre's worn

Observations
Rear wiper's starting to crack
front pads are worn thin

Anyone else had this anti-roll bar problem picked up - and what is this special tool you speak of, a birmingham screwdriver?! ;o)

Oh, and can anyone recommend any good pads?

Anti-rollbar, would assume the links which are common 'wear and tear' item - warranty wouldnt cover it so paid fiat to do mine @ £118 odd as I wasnt sure about the effects of the roll bars torsion. Rear tyre, assume outer edge chamfered off... also too common! Rear wiper, chop a universal 20' cut to size refill blade in half, feed into arm and have a spare for next time! Brake Pads - got Delphi / TRW pads off Lucas Service UK - £16 + VAT Fronts & £13 + VAT rears... picking caliper wind back tool up later (£7.39) from my local motor factors - like this one:

http://www.drapertools.com/b2c/b2cbrowse.pgm

Just gotta find me some time to fit the pads then... Good luck, your motor shouldnt cost too much to put right...

So nice to see you are getting your hands dirty W.N.W.L with the pad change its not a diffrcut job the backs are fiddlley but a do-able DIY job if you have some basic knowledge but I'm a bit disapointed in you that you didnt at least have a bash at the roll bar links yourself but I will admit they are an absolute bitch to get undone I resorted in the end to useing an angle grinder and cutting them off

a failure sheet like that is a dream come true. you can have it fixed and back in for a retest the next day as long as your local has the parts in stock, i'd say the pads would be 12 and the cable another 12. brake component failures are what you should hope for

i wish my MOT failures were like that

That would be a little risky for a bloke . . . who knows what might happen?!

Phil, why don't you set about creating the first ever Stilo CC?

Re: DAMN car has failed its MOT!!!advice needed

I'll be honest, £150 was a little steep for curing the creaking suspension....
