That would be a little risky for a bloke . . . who knows what might happen?!

Phil, why don't you set about creating the first ever Stilo CC? :p

I'll be honest, £150 was a little steep for curing the creaking suspension....

So nice to see you are getting your hands dirty W.N.W.L with the pad change its not a diffrcut job the backs are fiddlley but a do-able DIY job if you have some basic knowledge but I'm a bit disapointed in you that you didnt at least have a bash at the roll bar links yourself:bang: but I will admit they are an absolute bitch to get undone I resorted in the end to useing an angle grinder and cutting them off

Got hands well dirty... fronts done this morning, just before the weather turned  Rears tomorrow afternoon as forecast is for sunny/overcast... Front inners had 'bout 1mm left and think warninglight was gonna go  Even though i'm bedding 'em in improvement is very noticeable... don't go down to the wire folks (n) change 'em at 3mm or 1/8 inch (y)

MOT Failure

So, the Stilo failed on a tyre - not too worried about that but I got an advisory on a lower suspension balljoint. Anyone any ideas on cost, and is it a pain in the ringpiece to fit?

Cheers.

Re: MOT Failure

Lol nah i dont actuali work with my dad, im an apprentice machinist atm, but am going over to draughtsman/architecture next year. The bodywork and fabrication/welding i have picked up of differnt people in the family/working for people my dad knows etc.

Dont get the wrong idea about my car there btw, if its gona fail we'll know, so until its fixed, we dont MOT them, its just coz we have all the stuff to do it with etc. Anyway, sorry, SPAM

Order the part you need then look at it and figure out weather o not you could do it yourself ;)

Failed MOT on lowered suspension

First MOT on my 53 plate 1.8 Dynamic stilo, 38k miles

Some info, I have lowered the car about two year ago on Ebach shocks and PI springs 35mm drop, standard bump stops.

My local garage said there was not enough travel/clearance on the bump stop from the shock, and thus failed the MOT
The only thing I can figure out is that the standard bump stop need to be shortened.
viable or not ?
Does any body Know if the bump stop on the Schumacher is shorter than the standard stilo bump stop?

Can any body help!

Re: Failed MOT on lowered suspension

Didn't have any problems getting mine MOT'd with a near identical suspension set up... Garage trying to screw you out of some money perhaps?

Re: She passed her 1st MOT

Lucky you, mine failed 1st and 2nd MOT.....both front suspnsion coils fractured....n/s last year o/s this year!!!!

Re: She passed her 1st MOT

Just had mine done, it failed on both offside and nearside suspension arms, excessive movement, cause the rubber was shot to bits, or so I was told £290 which I didnt think was too bad for two new arms labour and the test,

could this be an MOT failure?

Just been having a quick look under the car and i am now concerned the back box is going to make the car fail an MOT.

Its not blowing or making horrible sounds, and I had no reason to look at it other than to check, but no found that on the right hand side of the back box (as you look from the back of the car), the outer skin has rotted away by about 1-1 1/2 inches and has started peeling away.

Is this MOT failure time?

Re: could this be an MOT failure?

I had an advisory on my first MOT of back box corroded but then, with the same box, nothing mentioned on the 2nd MOT and now it's lining up for its 3rd MOT on the same box. So they can give the appearance of corroding externally long before anything major seems to happen.

To test, with engine running, jam a GLOVED hand on the tailpipe and listen for blowing anywhere. Then see if you can poke through any part of the box. If not then it's probably the same as mine. If it's not blowing and it's structurally sound then the outside appearance doesn't matter

Re: could this be an MOT failure?

Agree with Decks there, particularly about the gloves! I've had that as an advisory on each of the four MoTs I put my Stilo through, and the problem is in about the same area you describe (and around the drain hole).

Re: could this be an MOT failure?

I had an advisory on mine last month too.....about 1/3 of the outer casing is missing. Lucky they made it double skinned really!!
