When removing the petrol cap, I get a whoosh of escaping gas from the petrol tank.

It never used to happen, it's just started recently.

any ideas?

Yeah it's a natural thing; it's to do with the fuel system being pressurised. Both our Stilo's do it, the Schumi did it, our old 1.8 Brava did it . . .

well i thought it would be, but it's never happened before..

Yeah it's weird, it only does it sometimes on mine, from what I can think the more fuel the greater the "ssshhh" noise (due to increased pressure , obviously!).

Been warm lately? heating air makes it expand. the pressure relief valve on the tank will not relieve the pressure right down to atmospheric, hence a whoosh of air when the cap is released. Obvious really.

mine does this when its hot and theres not much petrol left in it. also when it gets to about 20 litres on a 40 odd litre fill, i get a fart noise and a shower of petrol.

again doesnt happen all the time.

If the petrol shower it just makes me look like an amatuer

that happens to mine when i fill the tank right up then don't fill it again till its on the red, its a normal thing to happen don't worry.

I suspected that, but I like to be thorough, and I can't remember it doin it last year.
