My doors stuck in the recent cold weather - after pooring some warm water over the handle I was able to open the door. However the mechanism that operates the latch appears to have frozen so that I could not get the doors to lock again! I had to sit in the car, holding the door closed, with the engine running until the door rods had defrosted.
I don't want to have to do this after every cold snap - has anyone else had this probelm? anyone got a solution?

Sounds like the same problem I had with my Tipo about 6 yrs ago, if it got very cold the door mechanism would either freeze shut, open or would let me open it but would then freeze shut again! This was particularly awkward when I opened it, started the engine and shut the door whilst scraping the windscreen, at 2 am....

Yep, check the recall, mine was done, and at the same time there was another recall, and they have upgraded my ECU, performance and economy has improved (felt like a new car)

I didnt realise there was a recall, my car went in to fix airbag fault, and they did the 2 recall things and stamped me book under the recall section. good for me FFSH when I sell the beast...

Good luck

had the same problem on my dads stilo - the doors froze shut - then open

didn't realise there was a recall for it tho

how many recalls has this been now?

Yep mine was recalled for that aswell, and the engine ECU update. Had to get it done twice though as the first dealer I took it to (Dixon's Horsforth) didn't actually do it but claimed they had. Winter kicked in and I had the exact same problem, door opened but just bounced back when I tried to shut it. Took it to a decent dealer (Piccadilly Ripon) who have now fixed the problem.

Mine had this too during the recent cold snap. Didn't realise there was a recall notice on it - just put it down to extreme weather at the time.

Shouldn't Fiat send out letters to registered owners about these recalls ?

i asked mine and he said it was only a minor recall and they were only sorting those that had reported the problem[}:)]

GONE IN 60 MINS

I had this problem. The dealer said they had to put anti freeze in the door handle cable. They told me there were no recalls outstanding.

Never got it done, casue it stopped getting cold.

The recall isn't out on all Stilos, only certain models between a certain chassis range if I remember rightly. Fiat only tend to send out recall notices when it is important for the safety of the vehicle. If it is a minor recall such as this door lock one, the dealer should do it at the service if they do a chassis check through the computer system. This should be done everytime your car goes into a Fiat dealer for work to be done

Paul

(y) Hi.. Guys... me and my mum both have stilo, bout 53 plates, her's being a 1.2 and mine a 1.8(Both 3Door)! She had the same problem, her passengers side door frozen shut! After contacting the dealer and booking the car in the dealer reassured use that this was not a common fault and was just a problem with the locking.

Does anyone kno what models the problems were on, as im looking out for mine now!!

Re: Look.........................................

I've not seen any recall about doors that stay shut when its cold! :/

I had one of my doors jam shut when deadlocked, it was a latch problem, which FIAT are aware of, maybe this is what your talking about!

Re: Look.........................................

I had this precise problem on my old Brava. One day it just locked shut and wouldn't open - cost to repair - £500. Had to take the back door of my Brava and air saw through the striker eventually (lots of labour time) and then repcae the parts. The garage told me that the bill was actually £950 but as the problem was so unusual and they tried a varierty of different solutions that all failed they didn't think it was reasonable to charge this.

If this happens get i would get it into the dealer as when your car runs out of warranty you know what will happen!

I've had mine to the dealer a couple of times to fix the problem with non-locking doors in the winter. But they have only tried lubing the lock. No mention of a recall. (And the lubing didn't help by the way.) What was done on this recall? New parts or just adjustments?

And here's a tip for those of you who aren't as used to cold weather as we are here in Norway: Don't pour hot water over the lock. That will just make it freeze even harder next time. Instead, fill a plastic bag with hot water and press it against the lock.

My drivers door froze last year- after being parked on an open carpark at work with the snow blowing against it all morning onto the drivers side, then freezing (i worked till about 10 pm that day) I had 2 inches of ice on the side of the car. to be fair, it unlocked first time, just couldnt get in it.
