Tim_T, thats a pretty in depth analysis, may I ask what your background is? Have you some Fiat experience?

It's always comforting to see techies on here.

:chin: yes I was thinking the same there Boz it is always good to have the techs to help us mear mortals :D

I am a time served Mechanical fiter and also qualified instrument mechanic

For 13 years I was Fork lift truck Service Engineer ( Multidisciplined) covering Both I.C.E powered and battery powered Trucks so used to fault fiding, computer diagnostics etc. Sorting out Naffed wiring looms, control modules etc.

Presently back to Maintenance Fitting at Corus Steelworks Scunthorpe

Well great to have you here mate we cant have enough advise from people like yourself and as an ex steelworker[fab/welder] a big hello (y)

If its Main Beam this is similar to my previous post Main Beam gets Negative from computor to energize Relay (T2) when Main beam selected on Stalk which sends signal to body computer.

Fuses for Main beam are F14 & F15

The sockets on the Relay mounting (85) & (86) are the Relay coil supply

So print out my previous post and use above in it for testing main beam.

Be sure not to pull the Radio fuse unless you have Radio Code/CD changer code on hand.

If you wish I,ll Head Light & Main Beam scan circuit diagrams/ description and then email to you if you wish i¬ll be tommorow cos I am just going to work on afters.

Thanks to all for the replys.

Just talking to members of the forum seems to have scared my car as it has behaved impecably since i posted the problems. I will uplug an reconnect the connections under the seat as suggested to correct the airbag warning next time it happens.
As to the other checks and things i think i may have to take it in (its still under warrenty) as i dont think i would be clever enough to carry them out. If the problems return and i have to take it in to be checked out i will let you all know what the cure was if it is indeed cured.

John

Ps to clarify things its only the (as i now know ) the main beam that goes on by it's self no other light front or rear. If you then turn on the lights while this is going on all the lights come on as normal but you have both dip and main on together and trying to use dir or main on the stalk has no effect untill it sorts itself ou then all works ok untill the next time it happens

Glad it's stopped playing games for the moment.

worth mentioning though John that on the Stilo the main beam and the dipped beam do come on together when you select main beam. That makes your particular fault even trickier to analyse.
So it would look like nothings happening if the main beam is jammed on.
i.e. you select dipped but main beam is already on
you select main beam but dipped lights come on with them as normal

If you select front fog lights with main beam on then the dipped lights should go off. Weird i know. Less trouble wiring up a Christmas tree
Why anyone wants main beam with fog lights?
Answers on a postcard please
