Hi i have been on this forum abit as i have a punto right now. Anyway due to a better job and alot more miles of travelling i have been thinking of getting a fast oil burner.

I was thinking of waiting abit and getting a MK golf GT TDI which would be great but i have notice how cheap stilos are.

Im looking for maybe the most powerful JTD, am i mad to be thinking of another unreliable fiat?

I know the engines are good because my dads van uses the same engine and that's done over 160,000 miles no problems.

What are the major issue that seem to occur with stilos

Oh and ofcouse i would be looking to re-map it.

Anyone got a picture of a Stilo 115bhp JTD Sporting?

Thanks

I have a JTD re-mapped to 155. It is my second Stilo and I have had an airbag light on both of them and that's it. Not sure about a JTD sporting but mine has 17's and spoilers as standard. Click on my photo album.

Just go for it......you only live once:D

Aren't the JTD sportings the 120bhp multijet?

you can get upto 170bhp with a remap and upgraded exhaust:D

there were a few tweaks from an 03 plate onwards and this sorted out a few of the earlier stilos problems, theres loads of threads about this.

Like bozzy said the main thing is the airbag light, but most of the time that can be sorted easily.

You should go for it, I upgraded from a mk2 punto 1.2 8v to a stilo JTD and it's the best thing I've ever done (y)

Are you getting a 5 door or a 3 door?

Dan

yea you are mad.

any issue is a major issue with a stilo, best thing to do is save up twice the money and get a second one, that way when one breaks you can use the other.

Hey there matey, this is a jtd sporting:

my_stilo.JPG

sorry its not standard but seems i dont have any standard pics of it :(

you can only get a "sporting" on an '05 plate or newer. and yes they are now 120bhp. changed it 4mths after i got mine :bang:

the main difference between the dynamic and the sporting is 17" alloys and cruise control as standard. oh and the sporting badge. (y)

My 04 JTD Dynamic has 17's & cruise control as standard??

yer it would be a 3 door.

other options are a MK5 Golf GT TDI (need to save lots for that)

or a Civic Type-r (thirsty motor tho)

Thanks for the pic, looks pritty smart

Another happy customer

No you are not mad buying a Stilo although I would say you'd be mad to buy new, the Stilo sheds value big time and will be replaced early next year which will totally kill residue value. If you do buy new get a discount, I've seen the JTD 3 Door sporting going for £9.5k which seems about right. Have you also considered the new Grande Punto, seems popular and will probably hold its value much better and isn't that much smaller.

I owned a Stilo for 3 years and no issues really. Some peeps blow things out of all proportion, if you don't like the odd niggle like an airbag light then don't buy a car and take the bus instead.

Like i said in my previous post it's mainly the 51, 02 and 52 plates that have some problems. the 120bhp multijet is supposed to be a great engine :)

like thepottleflump said dont buy new! my Stilo JTD was £14k new and I bought it for £5300 when it was 2 years old.

The point to remember is that you're NOT buying a Stilo in 2001 or 2002 - you're buying one in 2006! Any issues with this age of car should have been sorted years ago. That's why it's very important to get good service history. A Stilo that's only had one owner with good service history is likely to be a very good buy and don't forget the earlier models came with a lot more toys.

On the other hand if it's had 3 or 4 previous owners then I wouldn't touch it.

:woot: Like mine? Why?
All you've got to ask yourself is "Why hasn't any one owner kept it very long?".

Judging from many posts here, problem motors soon get passed back to a garage (P/X etc). How many of those garages are going to take the time to sort out all the issues with the car before selling it to someone else?

I'm the third owner of my stilo. the first was FIAT probably a reps car for about 6 months, then it had a second owner for about 2 1/2 years then I got it :D Mine's been problem free (so far) and it's got its full service history, but I know what your saying argonought if a car has lots of previous owners you start thinking to yourself "why didn't these people keep the car for long"

Dan

Your mad for sure, but so what, nothing wrong with a bit of madness here and there. If you weren't mad you would go and buy something run of the mill with a ford badge on it. I love my Stilo to bits.
I got mine when it was 18mnths old and saved a metric shed load on the list price, which acording to the paperwork that was left with the manual and logbook, the poor previous owner paid, full whack! No discounts. I really feel sorry for him.
