Please help, My fiat stilo 1.2 02 Reg (active) has started flashing up ASR, ABS failure, does anyone know what causes this and is it easly fixed ?

i have left the car into the fiat to have a look at today and i don't want them calling me up with a crazy bill to get it fixed.

Thanks duvet

Yes it is a common issue, but very rarely causes a major fault. Do a search on the stilo section and you will find many a thread relating to this, plenty of reading material for you.

The warning usually dissapear if you re-start the engine.

yep - welcome to the club:yeahthat:

restarting your engine will usually clear it. mine does the same thing from time to time (usually when the weather is hot for some unknown reason)

just part of the stilo experience - enjoy!!

The fault flashes up everytime i turn the engin on, tried to turn off and on but it doesn't shift, its been a proplem now for a couple of months, was hoping it would dissappear, but no luck. (n) :bang:

does anyone know how much it will cost to get it fixed? Fiat are charging me £66 for for someone to have a look at it ! which will take 10mins if that.

No doubt one of the technical wizards will correct me, but dosent the fix involve a software update, something to do with the ecu??

I have had the battery changed recently and it was doing it before the battery was changed and after, it was doing it well before the orginal battery was low on power.

I'm expecting Fiat to call shortly and i don't want them filling me full of    and it costing me for a minor fault. any other idea's ?

just got a phone call from Fiat, theu say its the wheel bearings causing the problems, they need replaced, but when taking them out it could damage the ABS sensor, all of it to get fixed while cost £207 !

is that expensive ? what should i do ?

can it be done at another garage ?

If it's the ABS wheel speed sensor discs then that would certainly cause your problems. I beleive they're an integral part of the wheel bearing so the whole wheel bearing with sensor disc has to be changed. You don't say whether it's one or more that needs doing.

It's a fair sized job and the bearing and sensor disc aren't cheap so provided it fixes it then I don't think you have much choice. Some specialist places can do the job but they'd need all the test gear

thanks for your advice, looks like i might just have to get the work done wth them !!!! (n)

On another note, when is the stilo 2007 released and how much can you expect to pay ? my cars paid of in september and would love to upgrade to the new stilo (y)

Judging by a thread on here the Stilo name will not be carried over to the new model and its looks as though they will be calling it the Brava :(

If that's the case then the Stilo is going to turn out to be a very rare car indeed.

I'm even more pleased I bought one now. :)

Thats about right 10 minutes to bring your car into workshop, hook it up on computer & extract codes.Print off codes & carry out a active diagnostic on the system & data record the wheel speeds on a test drive. After getting back into the workshop studying the data recorder results & carry out resistance/voltage checks on the offending speed sensor. Then write up the report card, unhook the equipment & refit any panels/connectors....yep 10 minutes should do it:rolleyes:

just spoke to a friend that works for audi, he says he can do all the work for half the price if not alittle less (y) (y) ! sounds good to me, and he doesn't smoke so no time for smoke breaks ! yippppeeee !!!!!!:slayer: :slayer:

smoking is good, the more smokers smoke the less tax i have to pay, go to the other dealer and get the smokeyest smelling mechanic you can find, keep him in work and paying taxes.

does anyone know where i can pick up wheel bearings on the net ? might also need a abs sensor ?

just looking to check out prices.

cheers(y)
