General Help ! Asr, Abs Failure

mines came up with asr,abs and esp failure once after a had been for a hard drive.

thats why its on its way it for a 12 year old honda!

Had this go on my Brava: Duvet, make sure you get exactly the right part, I ended up getting one cheap from FIAT direct as the shop4parts one came and was incorrect (although I believe they've sorted that now). Bearings for ABS cars have a magnet on them, and the sensor reads Magnetic Flux, and interprets that as speed. Simple Physics really . . .

Good luck getting the work done and let us know if this is the cure (y)

Getting the work done tonight so i'll let you know how i get on tomorrow, fingers crossed it all go well, its in for MOT on friday !

watch this space !

THE GOOD NEWS - Got the work done, abs and asr failure away for good i hope, all in it cost me £130 for parts and labour, not bad. (y)

THE BAD NEWS - My friend who was fixing it has just informed me that i need a new Exhaust, from where it leaves the converter ! i also need two rear brake pads ! all money money money ! :bang:

he says i have a 50/50 chance of it passing MOT without the work done, going to chance it as i don't have the money to fix these problems.

AWK WELL.........

can someone help me with how to fix this fault on my stilo, had a rear accident to the left side rear sometimes and it affected my rear axle and i had that changed :bang: , wht do i do to get my car off these lights............plssssssssssssss:cry:

Take it back to the garage. Did the warning lights start straight after the bang and repairs? Most probably it doesn't like the signal from the ABS sensor on that wheel or there's electrical connection problems but it could be anything and not related. Take it to a garage that has the ABS diagnostics to get fixed

I have similiar problem from time to time. ABS fault appears while driving with low speed on the straight road. Fault dissapear after turn off and turn on the engine. I connected my car to the diagnostic software and the fault is always the same - C1042. The error description points to the phonic wheel. I logged the speed sensor (ABS) while driving and noticed that the signal from this sensor is unstable, jagged compared to others. Where to start? Charging the battery? Replace ABS sensor or a bearing with a phonic wheel?

Hi
The phonic wheel is attached to the cranck shaft.
It definitely will not be the cause.

I think the cause is one of the front disc brake pad sensors warning signal:
• either brake pad wearing thin or.
• a bad connection, those wires are flimsy.

This will reset the alarm when it see signal is healthy after car is switched on again.

I'm not sure. I think that in Fiat Stilo every wheel bearing have a phonic (magnetic) ring which is reponsible for signal given to ABS sensors - in my case to the right front ABS sensor. I don't know what is real cause - phonic ring in the bearing or ABS sensor. Also it can be a problem with the voltage of the battery. I read few topics on polish forums and many people claim that the problem is the result of small metal chips between phonic ring and sensor and all I need to do is use some compressed air to clean it up.

I have learned something new today ?
Unfortunately can't assist with that.

Don't know how easy the sensor is to remove.
Then maybe swop with left hand and see if the fault shift.

I've (fortunately) not had to do one on my Stilo, but the usual cause is the wheel sensor failing which is typically around £30 a side. The main problem when changing one is undoing the retaining bolt which will be rusty, and possibly shear off. Otherwise it's a straight forward job of cleaning everything up, and swapping over.

Okay, the reluctor ring (UK description) can have failed like in the Youtube vid. Got to be honest, yes it could happen but very rarely, and if it did the usual repair would be to replace the whole driveshaft end, as by that time the boot and/or bearing would also be quite worn.

Wheel Sensors are usually handed (L & R) with different length leads, but not always.

I suggest fitting a new sensor and cleaning up the ring should cure it.

I disassembled right ABS sensor and with help of a flashlight I examined inside of the hub by slowly rotating the brake disc 360 degrees. At one point I noticed a large piece of rust. I broke it into small pieces and blew it out with compressed air. I hope it will help.
