 Oh more joy.....not!!!!! To add to £90 plus vat CD player repair air-con has now packed up!
Can anyone help, air conditioning compressor and cooling fan not cutting in when air-con button pressed, little orange light comes on and theres a click from a relay at top of heater at drivers side, i've checked the fuse for the compressor in box next to battery and its ok!
Any common faults on 1.9 Jtd system?
Very briefly pressed pin down on valve on air-con pipe under bonnet and there seemed to be a lot of pressure in system so not completely out of gas!

Looks like a trip to local air-con repairing garage is looming!!!!!!!! not going to Fiat franchise unless its unavaoidable.

Do cars have a sixth sense that makes them go wrong every time you get some money spare?:bang:

Are you saying that the car fan blower doesn't even come on -on it's lowest setting automatically-when you push in the A/C button even though the button lights up? Assuming blower switch in the 0 off position to start with

The A/C switch should energise J34 and turn the car blower on at it's lowest setting and also turn on the compressor via module M10 powering relays T9 and T5

:( The blower motor comes on even when its in the 0 position when the air-con button is pressed, is this a good sign? at least it proves the switch is working and possibly the relay on the heater!

Yeh i had this exact problem last april, basically they said the problem is down to the hose's the pump and not using once a month to keep the pump working (i think) and basically they cocked mine up when doing this, placing the incorrect hose's on there and f*cking something else up, luckily mine was under warranty back then but i dont know how much this will cost u mate

"The blower motor comes on even when its in the 0 position when the air-con button is pressed, is this a good sign?"

It's different from what you first said as

"air conditioning compressor and cooling fan not cutting in when air-con button pressed"

Yep it means that the switch relay is working so that's good in a way

So your compressor isn't going- most common cause is lack of gas pressure. You need to check what your actual gas pressure is. There's a pressure switch- called a linear switch - as it cuts off the compressor if the gas pressure is too low or too high. If your gas pressure is too low (very common) then the compressor doesn't start. The switch is down the front- drivers side- next to the condensor (radiator looking thing at the front) you could just check that the electric connector is fitting snugly- other than that the first step is to check your gas pressure

It's the first thing an A/C engineer will do and they'll often do it for nothing as it takes 10 secs

Hi...sorry to cause confusion, by cooling fan I meant one under bonnet on radiator, would call one in heater blower fan!

Anyway car going to local Peugeot franchise on monday as the have air-con service, see if theres any gas in it first and possible cause of leak. have to see what happens after that, would be able to work out electrical side myself if I had a wiring diagram but no Haynes manual on Stilo, have seen discs on E bay but are they any good?

Hi Sid
There may not be a leak as the A/C system pressure decreases the same as in your tyres and changes with outside temperature too. Imagine leaving your car tyres for 2 years without checking or pumping them up

You say you had some gas pressure in the system so that's a good sign. If you had even a small leak the lot would be gone

Yes the Stilo manual CD Roms are the only thing there is apart from the ePer parts catalog so finding out information is a kind of Indiana Jones adventure but with the hands on help of some great guys on this friendly forum we're filling in the gaps

:) Good news, vacuum tested today (it passed) gas recharged and air-con working again, lets see how long it takes for it to all escape again, Mates car is nine years old and done 170,000 miles and air-con never been touched and still works......Bl##dy smug Mitsubishi owners!!!

Excellent! Almost all air con systems lose pressure over time so it's a rare one that still works after that length of time. Efficiency goes downhill over time with it too.
Maybe recharge it yourself next time?
