The 3 door vs 5 door argument seems to come up pretty frequently in these forums and it all seems rather pointless when you consider they're really quite different cars.

The 5 door is a great practical family car. It looks great from all the front angles, especially when getting in/out of the car but admittedly not so good from the rear. It gives that high ride and feel of a mini-MPV which, whilst I didn't like so much at first, is something that grows on you. Get one with the skyport and it feels incredibly spacious. If you're likely to be carrying 3 or more people around most of the time (i.e a family) then it's a no contest win by the 5 door. Get the 5 door on the open road and it rockets along (at least the JTD does)

On the other hand if you're young & single then you'll more likely to be attracted to the sportier looking but less practical 3 door (I know I would - if I was :( ).

If I had to choose between a 3 or 5 door tomorrow - I'd choose the 5 door (I love mine) but everyone is different.

My point is that you should accept the car for what it is and not try to change it into something it isn't. As KoArAnG says if you really want the 3 door then go for it (you might want to consider a JTD too) but don't let anyone convince you the 5 door is unwanted. Loads of members on here love theirs. :)

I am liking it more now that I have driven it to and from work today and down to the coast over the weekend, I just prefer the look of the 3dr and I prefer the lower driving position as all my cars to date have been lower, but that can be rectified by lowering the car if I really need that..

Nick (my BF) says he choose the 5dr over the 3 for the practical reasons and as we do have family over to stay a lot so this makes more sense for collecting them at airport and loaning them to drive it etc, plus it did have the extras I mentioned and just over 9k miles on the clock which is nothing for an '04.

Guess for me it just seems more a grown up car than the 3 dr and I suppose I don't want to admit it but I am 27 now :(

So all in all I am now happy with the car esp when I seen the comments on here and the pics of what some of you have done with yours, as they look really good...

Will post some pics of the car tomorrow when hopefully it is not chicking down with rain..

Tut so cruel laughing at me, I can't help being female, Irish and Blonde now can I.. (ok blonde highlights only)

Liking the car more today now, but having a problem with the service due message as it shouldn't be due till July but keeps flashing up when I start the car, called teh garage and they want to service it on Saturady to reset this, but won't this cause me more problems as it is basically servicing it 3/4months early..

Oh darn it so Ime not gona get my chickens  dont worry about your service light as your car is going in for a service anyway they will put the car on the examiner and reset and that will blow out the candle[term used by Deckchairs5]or as I call him Bat man :D PS. my service light has been on since I bought my stilo last Sept and Ive got quite used to it smiling at me at switch on :) and now i just ;) back at it :D but no doubt will get around to having it removed [oneday]

If you enter the cars computer system (press the menu button then scroll down to "service" ) it will tell you the number of miles and days due to the next service. The warning generally comes on when you have about 1000 miles left to the next service to give you time to book the car in etc. The current mileage in your car is about 10,000 miles roughly isn't it? Therefore it may simply be that the car has calculated a service as being due (standard Stilo servicing is evry 12,000 miles or 1 year).

As long as the service is properly done (i.e oil changed etc) then you have no real concerns, except the next service will be due 1,000 miles earlier and so on. Over time it will be possible to return the car to schedule by servicing it slightly later. I bought my car with 33,500 miles and the dealer did the 36,000 mile service, but by allowing it to go over the service due distance by 500 miles each time (within the Fiat tolerance of +/-1000 miles) I have managed to get it so the 60,000 mile service is due at 60,000 miles.

Ah ok thanks for that, it does say 0 miles to service due in the menu, but also everything seemed to be reset when we picked the car up. Not sure whether to leave it till June or have it done the weekend when they have said they will do it for free. But I have a feeling it won't be a full service ...

Has the cars service book got any stamps and/or invoices for previous services?

As a 04 plate car it should have had at least one service already, if not the dealer (I assume the car was bought from a franchised Fiat dealer?) needs to provide answers (and a service) to maintain the validity of the warranty.

Yeah its got full service history and was bought from a Fiat garage, so all that is good. When I rang him he said that it was no problem to leave it till July when the next one is due but if it bothered me to bring it in and have it serviced free.

So I could get it done now for free but then that means it will knock it all out of time as to when the next one is done, or live with it saying service due and have it done in July (and use the £75 voucher they gave me for the service)

Sorry for all the dumb questions also

The dealer should be able to reset the warning now, and then you can pay to have it serviced in the summer and they can reset it again, thus preventing it from being out of schedule. You would just have to make sure they do reset it at the next service, as they may forget. A £75 voucher is useful against the 24,000/2 year service as that is roughly £220 ish (on a 1.2, so will be more on a 1.6).

Hope that helps
