That STILO roof bars look very nice. They r a kind of cute not only in winter. I was wondering if somebody has them mounted on the car?;) R they hard to put on, where can they be bought?

I bought mine from the dealer at the same time as my car (I got a 15% discount) but used them for the first time only a few weeks ago. They took a while to put on; but I anticipate it'll be quicker next time, as I now know what I am doing.

Due to the slope of the roof, the mounting brackets are different sizes (front to rear) and hence the rubber 'boots' are different too.

You have to screw a peg into each corner and place the boot, then mounting bracket over the peg. Then the roof bars bolt onto the pegs. Finally you have to screw (allen bolts) the cover caps onto the bars.

So it isn't exactly simple.

damn ... i thought it was much much easier ... preety complicated. anyway, since we r talkig about winter stuff, do you use chains for the wheels and what kind, since u have alloys !?

Blimey, using snow chains?!

I know the UK weather can be a little cold at times but I don't think our climate calls for snow chains (Scotland perhaps) and our friendly police force (sorry, "service") would probably stop you and find something to grumble about (like damaging the road surface - not that our roads are already a state!)

i didnt think of the climate ... but dont you guys go skiing somewhere? isnt the winter equipment obligatory in some period of the year?

The only "obligatory equipment" I'd say we need is anti-freeze in the cooling system and a stronger dose of washer fluid.

As for going skiing, yes we do - we get on a plane (with those annoyingly long sticks that wack people around the head at the check-in desk) and head somewhere in Europe with enough snow to ski on. :)

I'm going skiing next month, but my Stilo puts me over my baggage allowance so I am leaving it at home ;)
