anyways....... :D

Back to the fiat talk...

Activematt did a graph of what different varients the stilo owners on the forum had and the biggest percentage of stilo owners have an abarth? So maybe bigger engine/more bhp is the way forward... if that makes sence!!

I certainly wish my car had that bit more.. thts y im goin for a remap!

Erm, no, the dci comes in 1.5, 1.9, 2.0 and 2.2. The new 2.0 is 150bhp, trust me....

What he said ;)

The 2.0dCi is a new engine to the Renault range, and can be had in two states of tune.

It is being phased into the range on the Laguna and Espace, but it's not available for the Megane yet. Renault have just phased-out the 1.9dCi 120 and replaced it with the Euro IV compliant 1.9dCi 130 (with particulate filter) for the 2006 Megane, Scenic, Grande Scenic, Laguna, Espace and Grande Espace.

The 2.0dCi 150 can be had on the Laguna with a manual 'box. If you want an Auto, it's still the old 2.2dCi 140 engine, I'm afraid.

The 2.0dCi 175 (yes, 175bhp from a 2.0 diesel!!!!) is now available on the Espace and Grande Espace, once again with a manual box. Here, the old 2.2dCi 150 (yes, 10bhp more than the Laguna for some reason) can still be had as a manual or auto.

Both states of tune for the dCi are Euro IV (and have particulate filter).

Back to the question about the Fiat diesels, the 1.9 115bhp engine is a JTD (i.e. unijet). The 1.9 120bhp engine is a multijet unit.

I suspect Fiat think there will not be much market for the 1.9 150 bhp 16v multijet engine as most high-powered diesel engines in the UK are bought by user-chooser company car fleets and more expensive Fiats (due to high depreciation) tend not to figure on most lease-companies books; I know quite a few people that can have various family hatchback on their list, but Fiat are often excluded (n)

As for the high percentage of Abarth owners on here, that will be due to them being enthusiasts and having a real interest in the car. Not being rude, but most Stilo 1.2/ 1.6 owners will have bought the car 'cos it's cheap family transport and won't even know sites like the Fiat Forum exist; the 1.2/ 1.6 owners on here (who therefore don't fit into this catagory, so I'm not having a pop) will be the exception rather than the rule

So why is it that the 2.2 Hdi engine in my dads car only kicks out 136bhp and 236 torque where as the smaller Stilo engines which is a 1.9 with 115bhp and 255 torque  or is it its just French :p

I don't know where the 380nm comes from, as to the best of my knowledge the 1.9 120bhp m-jet produces 280nm (206lb/ft) of torque at 2000rpm.

With high-powered turbo diesels most often the problem is with the gearbox and it's ability to transmit the torque to the wheels and the driveability. Also, the HDI in your Dad's car is now an older generation model; Peugeot/ Citroen have introduced a 2.0HDi 16v that produces 138bhp and 236lb/ft of torque, which is more comparable to the m-jet. PSA (Peugeot Citroen) are also rumoured to be producing a 2.2HDi 16v which will have 160bhp and around 275lb/ft of torque; this engine will likely go into the Fiat Ullysse too :yum:

The driveability I mentioned can be illustrated simply. In my old Punto JTD I could go up a hill near the Fiat garage at 30mph in 4th (about 1300rpm) with no problem whatsoever. I had an Alfa 1.9multijet 16v (150bhp) for a few day's and tried the same thing; all it did was splutter and almost stall! Sure it had more 'punch' but the bigger turbo resulted in low-rev lethargy the low-pressure Punto never suffered from ;)

In addition to that, I stated "like the megane and VW....". However, I went into detail on the megane since I know a little bit about it, I don't know much about VW's diesels.
